Diana 470 TH

After researching for many weeks on my next air rifle and after 20+yrs with a model 38 .177. I couldn't find an abundance of info on the 460/470th models.  So I'm adding this here for future search's.

I picked up my new .22 470th a couple weeks back and ran a couple hundred shots through it at targets and over the chrony to get a baseline.
Averaging around 750-765 fps on 18gr JSB's and 845-860 with most 14.3gr pellets I was pretty happy. Groups were a little over the place though, but I hadn't concentrated on finding different pellets to see if groups tightened or playing with different holds.

I stripped it all down a couple days ago and lubed up a grease free but slightly oiled internals from factory.  That made a very nice change to the cocking effort/ smoothness and shot cycle.  Over the chrony it tightened up the spread a bit and increase fps slightly.

I have now fitted the Vortek PG2 spring and guide assembly but held onto the visually ok factory seal.  A quick chrony test straight up showed a huge (dieseling) increase with the 18gr to low to mid 800's, but settled to high 780's now.  and the 14.3 gr gained only 5-10 fps.  Obviously with the rifle being only a few hundred shots old, it is still to bed in and settle.  And any minute dieseling with the first half dozen shots will disappear.

Groups post vortek have tightened up too after only 30-40 shots.

Very early days, however I'm extremely impressed with the reduction of the initially harsh shot cycle from factory, to much better with just a lubing, to now almost matching my vortek tuned 38 for smoothness and thud like shot cycle. But with 10 more ftlb than the 38.  I am really looking forward to concentrating on the groups and testing more pellets in the coming weeks.

It also has a half dozen bunnies under its belt already.

   My 460 shoots crosman 14.3's the best.  One of only 2 guns I own that shoot them well. I should shoot it more, but I only use it for pesting. Have taken a G-hog to 60 yds. It's a long gun but I have long arms. nice balance to.

The stock on a 470 is ambidextrous, if that's what you mean.  I don't mind it, although it needs a just a little more thumb relief, nearest the safety.

I have been putting mostly 18gr jsb's through it for break in and testing.  I have some jsb 14 and did put a half dozen Crosman premiers through it last thing yesterday before having to head off, they grouped well, so look forward to sending a few more of them out the barrel.

I was at the low country Fun Shoot this past Saturday and my old buddy Tim (aka  lefteyeshot) had his 470TH their and I got to shoot it, very nice and smooth and bone stock, i was very impressed with it, it is a .177 cal and not to hold sensitive, sweet shooter and accurate. I will definitely have add it to my list as a must have one day....
