Hello.
I posted this in the general forum and it was recommended that I post here.
I have a gun from my grandfather. It's clearly old without any name or markings on it.
It has a compartment in the stock for darts.
Anyone recognize it? Would love to see what you think.

Don't sell it till you know what it is and exactly what it is worth.  The method of attaching the barrel to the stock reminds me of the way that was done with muzzle loaders.  I do not recognize the rifle but, were I you, I get two opinions about it.


It is possible to search google images with an image, unlikely that you will find anything but you might.

The only thing I can find that is remotely similar is called a Boothby air rifle. It has a similar charging handle. Any idea what caliber it is?

Tim, your gun fits the general category of "New England Type" gallery guns as described by Eldon Wolff in his great 1958 book "Air Guns".  The typical loading arrangement for these is a barrel that slides forward and may tip up, for access to the breech - I can't tell from your photo how this one loads.  Since it's unmarked it could be a one-off by a gunsmith who had a desire to try his hand at an airgun.  These were generally made in the later 1800's, before mass-production airguns by Quackenbush and others came onto the scene.

Nice gun; it's always interesting to see another variety of these oldies.

Don. R. I think you may be spot on.

There is button mid way up the barrel that when you click it, the front end of he barrel pops up and you load from there. NO idea what caliber. good questions.

Checked some of the links, similar, but definitely seem pretty unusual.
