This is a general review of the 15 grain .177 H&N Sniper Magnum

These pellets are very uniform in shape & weight, and of the 3 tins I tested i found not one dented skirt or defective pellet, as is the norm for most H&N ammo. After pulling 50 random pellets from 3 each of tins and putting them on a scale I found their weights to be within a very close range of what they should be. Most of those tested ranged om 14.92 to 15.14 grains. They are all nice & clean too, I saw almost no shavings or dust in the time when I dumped them out, and every pellet has a nice shine to it.

These pellets do bear a resemblance to the jsb monster & beast pellets. But with a few differences. They are a harder alloy and are shinier than jsbs. The head & skirt of the H&N are more defined from the body of the pellet than the JSBs, so there should be less friction as the pellet rides the bore. The skirt on these pellets are also thicker, and have ridges on the inside, possibly to help the skirt obdurate.

Accuracy testing on these pellets wasn't done extensively yet. But from my initial samples I fired 10 shots with these pellets at 10 yards and so far as I can tell they seem just as accurate as the jsb monster ammo. None of them keyholed and they all grouped together under a quarter inch and I was shooting offhand.

As soon as I can find the time i I intend to see how they group at ranges from 20 to 50 yards.

it may be a while but I am planning on sleeving a daisy 953 barrel to use in my .25 mrod just for the heavy .177s...

If I had not picked up a .22 WMR barrel also I would have the $ for the brass tube to sleeve it with already and would just need a .177 bolt...

I think it is great that the makers are starting to understand what we are doing nowdays... I just hope they sell enough to keep it going...

Do you have verniers or other caliper to get head/skirt/body size and length measurements?

I tested these yesterday. The avg weight for mine was 15.12gr with a spread of 15.0-15.18. I got a VERY bumpy shot curve that wasn't explainable by the fairly minor weight variations. When I say bumpy I mean that I had velocity variations of sometimes as high as 18 fps from one shot to the next in the meat of the curve. As a comparison, Monsters gave me max variations of about 5 in the meat of the curve. What those variations DIDN'T do was drop me back out of a good long 30 or so fps curve. Long for me anyway. 53 shots on a tiny cz200 tank.

I did a rough 17 yard bc measurement and got an ungodly high GA BC of 0.0435 and G1 of 0.0475. I only based that on 10 shots which under normal circumstances I would think would be enough but those high numbers just bug me. My set up is very imperfect as I don't have 2 chronographs. For my tune I get a fairly predictable 1.4 bar/shot. I just compared shots at same pressures at the muzzle to ones at 17 yards. As an example, using the same set up THIS gun gets a GA BC of 0.0193 with Baracudas and 0.0293 with Monsters. Not too far off what was expected. It shoots both of those into less than .25 at 35 yards benched in perfect conditions. The Sniper Magnums went into about .5 at the same distance and the dope was LESS(to my eyes) than the BC numbers I got would have predicted. More testing with my gun needs to take place. It would be nice if someone else chimed in with data since these are so new.

They are a bit long but they fit the hatsan mag perfectly fine. So they should also fit the mrod mag.

That BC is very high indeed & more than likely an error. But i can say this. I recently tested for this pellets BC with my gun. I shot them at an average of 1070 fps with the first crony at 6" from the muzzle & the second crony at 20 yards from the first and in my tests I found the BC at that speed & range to be approximately 0.038 using chairguns BC calculator. Thats pretty high for a .177 pellet.
Edit: velocity at 20 yards was 970fps

H&N gives a BC for each projectile. For the Sniper Magnums it's 0.035 for the .177 and 0.037 for the .22.

Well at 30 yards with my BSA Buc they make one large hole and the reason it was not a smaller hole was me...

they look very promising at 50 yards but I need to go out to shoot that far; so need more testing but I think they will do very well...

Kirby, if you can, shoot a few at 900 f/s or higher and
note the performance beyond 50 yd. I'm not too concerned
with group size but rather any evidence of heavy duty spiral.
If it shows up, mention the barrel twist rate.

Just noticed your post Ron...

I have not chronoed the Buccaneer yet because my chrono is a computer sound card in the house and I temporarily have 3 of my 4 grown kids at home...

Also my Buc is still stock which means as far as power adjusting is none but varying fill pressure...

But I bet It is around 800-850 fps on a full fill with the 15g .177 which might be a good thing with the BSA barrel which I think is 1:19 twist... at 800 fps is at the edge of being unstable

have to go but more to say on twist and such...

I trid them in my 350 mag. and they are very accurate up to 20 yards so far at 708 fps.
