Can anyone fill me in on how you go about "screening" (to fuzz up the lead to help grip rifling). Have heard some people do this to #4 buckshot for the Apache and others say it isn't necessary. Or if I should try and find #3 (.250)

Catfish,
Metal window screen wrapped around piece of 1x2 works well ...
Or, you can start by rolling the balls on a semi-soft surface with a coarse double cut file and work your way up to something as rough as a horseshoe rasp.
The bad thing is that you'll probably lose some air around the projectile.
As always, YMMV.
Cheers,

In my Apache rifle I just use the #4 buckshot as-is, out of the box. No problems. #3 will probably not work as it would be too large.

As I recall the actual diameter of Apache ammo was .246, but the .240 shot works pretty well.
