hatsan 100x - spring replaced - now shoots like &^^& with its favorite pellet ??

My hatsan 100x was sent in to hatsan for repair when it would no longer catch the seer while cocking.

Hatsan said the spring was broken in 2 (or was it 3) places and replaced the spring under warranty.

When it returned I scoped it and started out with the JSB 15.89 pellets it shot well with .. those did not shoot as well.  After trying a couple of pellets it seemed to like the JSB 15.89 pointed pellets at the 25 yards I have to shoot.

I set it aside to do something to another gun, then dug it back out a few days later.  The JSb pellets are shooting a shotgun pattern.

I get 1 low left, 1 wide right, 1 near the bull, 1 high, another low left another near bull another wide left another near bull ... etc ..

Why would changing the spring cause a change in preferred pellet ?
Why would a pellet that did well suddenly, after maybe 50 shots, start grouping poorly ?
Could it be the scope has gone wonky ?

I could steal a scope off another rifle to test the scope part and will unless some suggestion here says to keep tossing lead.   I have fewer than 150 pellets down her since the spring repair

 I think a scope changeout would be quicker, you don't need to sight it in, just check grouping. I tend to blame scope before rifle. You never know maybe the new spring damaged the scope on the first shot, it has happenned to me.

When I get scattered groups like that I think stock screws right off the bat.  Have you tightened them since getting the rifle back from Hatsan?

screws are snug, going to try another scope now.  changing the scope mount did not make a difference.

dropping down to H&N 14.66 from the 15.89 seemed to make a slight difference in groups, yet I still get half of the shots as fliers.

add in that the small brass bit that holds the pin that holds the cocking lever up went flying somewhere.   Hatsan does not sell the pieces, have to buy an entire new front sight assembly.  for now I am going to look for a nut and figure what the *(&^ does it matter if it looks right.

this gun shot well before hatsan changed the spring in it.    /grrrrr

I tried a new scope and mount with little to no changes.

I have tried 4 different pellets and all seem to shoot terribly compared to pre service.  Time to contact hatsan.

One thing that could just be me looking for an issue is that it seems to be more violent in the recoil, as if the SAS is not working as well as before.

15.89 and 18.13 pellets make a nice solid thud when shot .. when I shoot the 14.66 I get a twang sound.  since it shot so well with the 15.89 I never tried lighter pellets, so don't know if it did this before or not.

Is it odd that 14.66 twang and 15.89 don't ?

Maybe it's not getting enuff air cushion effect on the piston with the lighter pellets?

To bad it was not the scope, on to other things. Hope you get it sorted out soon. Might still be a problem from the broken spring.

It did not diesel badly when it arrived so don't think so.    I have shot somwwhere between 400 and 500 pellets through it, so any gunk should have blown out.

I do wish it were something simple since I would rather not ship it out and wait for a repair.   Since it is under warranty I am unwilling to mess with it.   If it were out of warranty I would have torn it down and checked the guts.

 Out shooting this evening and was having problems with my grouping, holding my 350 magnum loose with very light hand grip and stock barely touching my shoulder. Every now and then it would tighten up but not consistent. Quit for the night and went inside, started again downstairs after a coffee break, I have 23 tards if I stretch it.
 I was getting the same grouping downstairs, thought maybe it was because I am shooting 7.9gr benjamin hp's at 1009 fps. I was going to quit again when I figured I would try a different hold, instead of loose forearm grip I tried a firmer grip, on the trigger hand I held it not loose like before , again a more normal firmer grip and lastly still very light cheek weld but held the stock just so it is touching my shoulder. I think all these changes helped a lot , my group went from 1 1/2" to about 3/8"at 18 yards, this was shooting off the back of a chair.
 Might try it out if you have not already, might need a different hold now that there is a new spring in there, might work , might not.

Make sure the barrel is clean. Bore light or flash light into the breach.

Hatsan sent me a call tag for the rifle.  I think they did it since it was just in for repair as I had to pay to ship it to them the first time.

I must say they reacted quickly to my email and said they would repair or replace the rifle.

Now to locate the rear sight I took off to mount my scope.  LOL

Same here, had to remove the rear sight on the 100X and 155 to mount a scope.

Hatsan just got back with me on my rifle .. here is the email

Thank you for your patience.  We have determined that your rifle will require replacement, unfortunately, we do not have that particular model on hand with which to replace it.  If you do not mind the subtle labeling difference, we will be happy to replace your rifle with a Model 105X and replace the synthetic stock with a new walnut stock.  The two rifles are identical other than the stock material and the model number.


I told them sure, ship out the 105x with walnut

To back-up a little: Jeff when you said "enough air cushion effect" do you mean the piston slamming the front of the compression chamber could throw off poi also, other than normal recoil and vibration.
