sent in my Hatsan 100x for repair. just got an email inre the fix

I did not notice anything ODD when it was shooting and ONLY removed it from the stock to check for surface rust I noticed on another rifle I have.  I figured I should check all of my guns and had just finished shooting the Hatsan with no sign of a problem.

This is the email I received from them.

Our technician has assessed your rifle. The main spring was actually broken in two places. He has also noted excessive amounts of lubrication. Lubrication of the moving parts is only necessary in small amounts, every 250 shots as needed. Also, DO NOT use any type of lubrication in the compression chamber its self, as this can cause dieseling which will quickly damage the rifle. Your rifle has been repaired and should ship out later today

I do not lube my compression tubes unless I am doing a teardown and I had not torn down the 100x.  If by excessive lubrication they mean the lithium grease on the trigger or the 3 in 1 oil I used to wipe the gun down with, then I will own up to that part. 

I had not noticed anything off in the shot cycle and would have thought that a spring broken in 2 places would have made an odd sound when I was shooting.

Oh well, it doesn't matter since they are not charging me for the repair so I am happy.

Probably over lubed when you got it. Did you get it new or refurbed?

It was not listed as a refurb, though on sale

edit to add gun just arrived.  she shoots is all I know so far since I just tossed 2 pellets with her.  scope, chrony and sight in are on the list

wait... so you got an email today saying that your rifle shows excessive lubing and then hours later it makes it from Bentonville, Arkansas to Greenwood, Indiana? Thats some pretty awesome shipping time! Go Hatsan!

From the sounds of their email I wouldn't say they were calling you out for putting lube in the chamber it was more of a "hey just for future reference don't put lube in the chamber" type thing. Glad to see they have great shipping times and fixed your gun for free!

the email was sent on the 26th, somehow I missed it in the 100-200 I get a day.  my apologies

odd thing .. I put a piece of masking tape on the stock with the pellet the gun likes.  with so many rifles I need some way to remember what likes what.  the pellet it used to like (JSB 15.89) shot like &^^&. 

I had a tin of JSB 15.89 pointed pellets and figured what the heck I would try them and they shot very well at 20 yards.  I was just too lazy to move things around to test at the 28 yards I can get in my backyard.

I just found it interesting that a pellet it used to like shot so poorly after they claimed to replace the spring.

You have chrony numbers before and after?
With a spring change you'd have a new power plant.
That could cause the change in pellet preference.

I will have to look however with the new spring CPHP's were giving me 25 fpe while 18.13g were giving me closer to 23 1/2 fpe .. granted I only shot about 6 of each over the chrony AND it may still be dieseling on me.

I think previously it was 22 - 23 fpe
