13 CI Ninja Tanks - Check for Leaks

FYI to those who use the Ninja tank for HPA:
I've been working for the better part of a week to find the slow leak in my QB78D HPA conversion.  I had taken out both burst discs, the gauge and fill nipple in an attempt to remove the regulator from the bottle (still couldn't get out) to adjust its set-point.  Instead, tested the set-point the old fashion way by pumping the whole bottle beyond any reasonable set-point (say 1600 to 2000 psi) .

However, after I finally got the whole gun together, it had a slow leak .  In a search for the leak, I disassembled the entire gun twice changing valve o-ring, tank o-rings and working on the poppet, going on the assumption the Tank itself couldn't be the leak!  We'll finally, as a last resort, took the burst discs out again, gauge and fill nipple and wrapped them good in pipe tape.
Shazam !!! - noooooooooooooo leaks, also I found that if the fill nipple is screwed into the valve to far, the valve pin cannot function correctly and the entire bottle will drain when you bleed the pump.

Been a good learning experience for me, trying to keep others from repeating it

good idea - I always check with a gauge after setting the regulator. I do it to be sure that the regulator is not creeping. I put my on/off ASA with gauge on the bottle and leave it over night. A look at both gauges tells if reg is creeping, or bottle is leaking.

It may have worked for you, but the burst discs are not tapered thread, so you don't use Teflon tape to seal them.... They rely on a seal between the soft copper end of the disc and the shouldered bottom of the 3/8"-24 NF threaded hole they fit in....

You're right Bob, they did not have tape previously ................... I was just so tired of the leak, I over did everything, just in case

Can the tape cause them to malfunction?

Burst disc should be torqued to 55-95 inch pounds.

How did pumping the bottle to over 1600psi change the set point?

Hey Ricky,
Had this attached to the top of regulator which was attached to Ninja bottle.  I had previously added (11) .032 belleville washers to replace the original spring - trying to get a 1500 psi set-point.  Pumped up the bottle (instead of my home made aluminum one), to almost 2000 psi and noticed my gauge hooked up to the regulator stopped at 1525 psi.
It took me two different attempts to get the 1525 psi, the first one was 1400 psi, but I needed to add another washer.  I had made the gauge set-up to quickly test various regulator set-points, but this assumes you can remove the regulator from the bottle (which I couldn't).

Shouldn't as the disc seals right to the regulator and when it blows it vents "thru" itself so the tape should have no effect at all
