GTA website's time zone?

If no one minds me asking, is there any particular reason why the website's clock is set to Atlantic time?  It doesn't really encompass very many members here, and I don't think it's a compromise between 2 other zones.  Was it just some default option that nobody really ever saw any need to change?  Does it have something to do with daylight savings time?  It really bothers me whenever I can't figure out the logic behind something...

Go to your profile, click on "Look and Layout"
Scroll down and then click on "auto detect".

That's fixed, except now I'm wondering why
A) I never saw that option when I was going through settings before, and
B) Why the forum default time is Atlantic instead of GMT
Oh, well.  I suppose it doesn't really matter that much, I don't guess.  Just still can't help but wonder...
