R11 scope & ring choice?

Hi guys,

I'm toying with the idea of a R11 / HW98.  I have an Aeon 8-32x50 that I would plan on mounting on it.  However, I have read some vague posts regarding challenges mounting scopes to this rifle (sorry, I can't recall specifics here).  Does anyone have comments or experience with this combo?

You may have better success researching the HW95/R9 also as there are many more out there and the same issues would apply.  My paticular R11 has a ton of barrel droop so an adjustable mount or a heavily shimmed mount (which I am currently using) is a must.  Don't let the droop on my paticular rifle scare you off.  It is lights out accurate.  I would think the Aeon 8-32 would be fine.  You may not be able to use a sun shade though.  The R11 is a wonderful rifle.  I hope you take the plunge.

GREAT rifle!  You might have issues if you run a sunshade due to the overall length. nced would be a good person to contact on here, probably tell you all you want to know.

Unfortunately, the internet is full of posts -- vague and otherwise -- that are not really helpful.  The HW98/R11 presents no unusual challenges for mounting a scope.  It has dovetail grooves like all Weihrauch and most other air rifles.  You need a good set of dovetail rings, or a one-piece dovetail mount, with the correct height.  You have a 50mm objective lens, which means the OD is about 56-57mm.  High rings ought to do it.  For calculating ring height, see http://www.mil-rad.com/scope_ring_calculator  Barrel droop is not common with HW98/R11 models.

BKL makes excellent mounts, but if your scope has a 30mm tube then the BKL 30mm scope rings will bee too high.  Sportsmatch high rings are excellent as well and will be suitable for your scope.  I recently mounted a Hawke Airmax 30 Side Focus 8-32X50 scope with them.  The Sportsmatch rings have a retractable arrestor pin, unlike BKL rings.

Literally cannot say enough about this rifle!
I have a 6-24x56 Sidewinder sitting in double strap BKL rings and had no issues after well over 60,000 rounds.
Not sure how long that scope you have is, but an 8-32 Hawke was a tic too long on mine. Barrel would have come in contact.
No droop on mine and insane accurate is a literal understatement!!

Thanks for the great info everyone!  And (being the responsible adult that I am  :-p ) I need to sell one BEFORE getting the next.  Yeah, I know this is akin to blasphemy but I have a couple of kids going into college!

The R11 is a super gun, tell the kids to get a part time job and buy the gun.
