For years I've made custom handgun grips from exotic and domestic woods, and reproduction antique furniture. One of my favorite finishes is simply Minwax Antique Oil, which is an oil finish with some additional modifiers. I removed the stock from my Benji, wiped it down well with denatured alcohol to remove any oils, and lightly 0000 steel wool buffed it. Four hand rubbed applications of the Minwax Antique Oil with a day of drying between coats, and a final rub with a crumpled portion of a thin paper sack gave me what I wanted. A tough durable and easily touched up finish shows the feathering at the butt stock. I wish walnut was still the preferred wood for reasonably priced guns. Don.

Best of all, I'll bet that 347 shoots as good as it looks. Great job.

Northcountrygal I sure hope she shoots nicely. It's been so hot here with a heat index over 100 that I haven't had a cool stretch during which I could test her. I do know that her rifling is good. A dry patch run through the bore shows a little greenish residue from disuse over the years, but rifling looks sharp and smooth. I read that pneumatics "like" heavy pellets, but the descriptions of the heavies on some retailer's sites say they are "not" for use in pneumatics. I'm confused as to a selection to try. Why would a heavy pellet damage a pneumatic? Don.

No reason whatever to not use heavier pellets in your rifle. I would try JSB 10.2 and H&N barracudas. Nice finish job on that one BTW. I grew up with one of those as a hand-me-down from my brother. I must have killed a couple thousand blackbirds with it.
