I have a Ruger Impact .22 which I really like. I know it’s an off the shelf $139.00 springer but compared to my friends Beeman R9 which he has been letting me use, it doesn't seem that much different other then the noise my Impact is making now. I’ve got 1500+ rounds though it and the other day I noticed a noise in the main tube after firing. It sounds like there is something sliding back and forth. If I break the barrel but do not cock the gun it doesn’t make much noise and if I cock the gun the noise is gone all together and the gun still fires. I don’t have a chrony so I can’t tell if the velocity is affected.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated? I’m thinking maybe a broken spring?? I’m going to see if I can swap it for a new one and if not I guess I’ll have to deal with Umarex or maybe try and tear it down.
There is a sleeve inside the piston . If it is sliding back and forth either the sleeve is broken or you have a broken spring. More than likely a broken spring. The gun disasembles pretty simple with a spring compressor. Basically like a rws 34.

There's a lot of movement which I'm not sure you'd get with a broken spring. I don't have a compressor but I'm sure I could build one. If I can't return it, my old man is a television repairman, he's got this ultimate set of tools. I can fix it. Is the sleeve something I can purchase if that's the problem? Thanks for the input!
