p17 prep work

A while ago I posted about whether to get a p17 or a daisy 717.
I went with the p17 for a couple of reasons. Price, was a LOT less, and I really liked the fiber optic sights.
After reading a lot of posts about its issues, I decided to head those off at the corral as best I could.
Issues and fixes.
1. Air hole sometimes has burrs, which damages O ring seal.
   
  It looks like I lucked out, didn't see any burrs around the air hole that would nick the O ring. Polished it with steel wool anyway.

2. Sharp spring gouges plastic frame

  The end of that spring was sharp, did the best I could sanding it smooth.

3. Lots of burrs on trigger parts cause problems.

  Lucked out again, looked pretty clean to me.

4. Nut part of trigger mechanism comes loos after 50 or so shots, causing trigger fail.

  Added blue loctite to that.

Good work.  Let us know how it shoots.  Can you chrony it for MV consistency?

It shot pretty good for the five I took at the target. I don't have a chrony, so I can't check v on it. I know it took a fair amount of force to cock, and was definitely louder than my 1377 at three pumps is.
It wasn't bad to work on, much easier than my Tech Force chinese air pistol, which requires a spring compressor(which I don't have) to disassemble. That thing had horrible velocity, couldn't even penetrate cardboard at 12 feet! While I don't know what the v is for the p17 it seems to be booting out the pellets with some degree of force. I gave the S2 to my nephew, who promptly put it in storage.

P17s are really nice pistols.  The trigger isn't bad but can be improved on easily.  The trigger return spring is too strong for my liking.  It can be carefully stretched to reduce its tension.  The trigger pretravel can be shortened also.  I put a hollow shim on the end of the trigger adjusting screw.  There is a very good thread on P17s in the Chinese section.

I have 4 or 5 on them in different tunes, all are very accurate.  On of them has had the cocking force lowered from  28 pounds down to 20 pounds.  The velocity is lowered by about 50 feet per second but, it is easier for the ladies to shoot.
