Have done the same thing with my 397 and Blue Streaks, but use either a 2x pistol scope or a red dot up forward on the barrel, given that I do a lot of offhand shooting. I like leaving the receiver area clear for the sake of gipping when I pump.
Too bad the Crosman barrels aren't the same O.D. as the 392's... I'd love to use that base!

I used a Tasco and POI was changing. I assumed from the impact of the pump arm?

What I've discovered with red dots at short ranges, 10 to 20 yards, is that there is definitely some parallax, some models actually having a lot of parallax. Rest the gun so it can't move, center it on the target, then move your eye right and left. If that dot moves off the target, you have some parallax. One way to fight this is use the front sight on your rifle, assuming it is visible in the red dot. If you are careful to center the red dot over the top of the front sight for each and every shot, you've eliminated the problem. Might be worth a try. Really made a difference for my 10 meter shooting when using red dots.
This one might work for you. I have one mounted on my 1377.http://m.ebay.com/itm/151623061836

Not sure if you are interested in this or not but I used an air venturi intermount when I had one, and just used a traditional 3-9x40 scope and it was a rock solid set up I liked it a lot the way I pumped it was I put it upside down on my right shoulder and set the barrel near the front sight on my shoulder and used a downward pulling stroke to pump the rifle and grabbed my pistol grip with my left hand and I found 8 pumps for extended shooting sessions fairly easy. That's just my $.02 but I hope whatever you do you like!
