2260 HPA PCP build

I read about the crosman custom store on this site, and about the 2260 and 2400kt and all the fun things you can do with them.  I pulled the trigger on a .22 cal 2260, thinking it would be a fun backyard gun the way it is, or to build it into an even more fun PCP rifle.  For a PCP build I would want this rifle to be capable of 650-750 fps with a 14.3 grain pellet or at least 600 fps with an 18 gr or slightly larger pellet, with decent 35 yard accuracy and reasonably high shot count.  To accomplish this, based on what I have found here so far, I would equip the rifle with a B and A Max Flow valve assembly, an AC Customer power adjuster, an offset tank adapter/mount and 1400 psi regulated 13 ci tank from JDS Airman.  Am I on the right track so far?

You could have just bought a Discovery air rifle.. it's dual fuel- it uses both CO2 or air.  You'd also be getting around 15-20 fpe stock... which is on the high end of your requirments.  With CO2 you're limited to inside or warm weather shooting, as CO2 does not like the cold. 

You could go the JDS airman route, or you could go the HiPac route.  With all the extra money you'll be spending to make a 2260 a PCP, you'd be better off w/the Disco.

There's cheaper power adjusters, but A.C. does make some awesome parts! 

If you go the HiPac route, you could use a "frankenvalve", and get some pretty good performance...

Yes, I know I could have gone with a disco, but I like tinkering with things and building stuff.  I got the 2260 as a "hobby gun".  I got it so I could set the power for exactly what I am using it for, and for more shooting between fills.  After all, a 1400 psi regulated 13 ci tank should have a lot more shots than a disco. I still may pick up a 2400kt as well and put in a hipac and use it for a really light fun gun.  This airgunning thing is starting to feel like crack...

welcome to the fold... I built a HPA 2240 with a 13 cu in bottle. set at 700 psi (yep, that is it) i get 590 fps with 14.3 gr crosman prems. It is very quiet and it is a specialty gun for 45 yards or under. I use a 18 inch barrel and a 1399 stock with a disco valve (worked) and get about 90+ shots with a 4 fps variation. Trajectory is never a problem while you are regulating your shots... Most of my pesting with that gun are done within 30 yards. Is almost like cheating... place crosshairs in nutters cheek and is lights out.

590 fps at 700psi?  Wow, that is close to where I want to be.  What would you expect for velocity and shot count to be when regulated to 1200 or 1000 psi?

True... I've spent many-a-dollar on builds that could have been done with less cost involved, seeing how the build ended up, and where I began...  I just didn't want others to follow into the same financial pitfall I did  I would go the route of the JDS airman drop adapter...  If I were to build a 22xx up again, that's the way I would go.

Just as I thought.  Still in denial.  I ask that your read The Light of the Everlasting Lead and shoot 100 rounds into a 1" target at 50yds.

The original regulated limit on the bottle was 1100 psi. That netted a velocity average of 762 fps avg. but only for 40 to 45 shots... plus the reg was not as consistent, and the spread was about 8fps up or down... and it barked. so now its better suited as a a backyard pester.

Do run all 3 of my QB bottle conversions with 800-850psi output tanks and have gotten the speeds you outline, but a long (+20”) barrel is probably best.  Just not a lot of pressure, so a long runway seems to work out best.

Haven’t made a 2260 bottle conversion, but have done a 2250 conversion, but was in 5mm and a shorter barrel, so pretty well limited out a little short of your energy goal in 5mm.

It’s actually easier to get the speed you want with higher pressures…something like 1200psi would  likely work out well.

Was greedy for shot count but not greedy for power.  Found 11-14 foot pounds pretty easy to achieve with 850psi air.  With that pressure, have 2200psi with of air to use in a full 13ci tank, so get a lot of shots.  Managed 205 shots per fill in .22 at 12 foot pounds, but 160-175 is more normal once you get them adjusted just right.

that is what i was looking for... what are you filling up to? i stop at 2000 psi ... pass that some how the regulator stretches the spread a little... like once on a while it lets out a shot about 20 fps higher than normal. And since i am doing brain surgery on squirrelus arboreus rodentia with it i need it to be more consistent...

The speeds you are looking for could probably be gotten from bulk fill co2 in 60deg's or better for less $$.
Unless cold weather performance is a must.
However..I would have started out with a Disco if for no reason other  than you would have more parts that you can use in your build..(valve, tube with three screw valve anchorage, tube plug with threads for power adjuster, steel breech, stronger striker spring) most of this stuff is MIA on a 2260...The only + is that you power a 2260 with 12g's.

The 2260 is a nice gun to tinker with. The tube is short enough to make a really nimble carbine out of using a 14.5" barrel. Or keep the long barrel and hang a regulated tank off of the front, the tube is the perfect length.

Cold weather was part of my reasoning, the other part being that tuned to run well on 800-850air makes swapping to co2 during the summer pretty much pain free.  Co2 doesn't flow as smoothly but has higher pressure in the summer, so it works out pretty close in speed.

HAve run them on higher air pressures, and gotten more speed, but for most of the uses they're put to, I don't really need the speed/power.

HPA is really the only way for me to go, as over here, 3/4 of the year, maybe more, is under 65 degrees....
