Newbie. I've had a refurbished 1377 for several weeks that is a tack driver at thirty feet right out of the box. It is truly impressive as is. It will be a mod platform. But what is really wanted is a pest control 'machine' in .22 as a steroided or PSP 392. This conclusion is arrived at after reading most of this forum with the uppermost thought of function and reliability. For the obvious reason of wanting to be as unobtrusive to my neighbors as reasonably possible and also not wishing to raise eye-brows--- is there a way to put a full-barrel shroud on a 392? I really don't wish to 'manufacture' something myself. That would be the easiest yet last resort.

The shrouds are mostly for looks... I don't notice a diff at all on my NPSS..Basicly just an Aluminum barrel cover. The 392 will be loud! Might want to look at gas ram break barrels instead. My 1377 is louder than all my rifles and it has a 20 inch barrel on it.

If you want quiet then you don't want a 392. STi gave you good advice on the gas ram as an option. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome Rusty! Just a note, my XL1100 is substantially louder without the shroud, just ask my wife!

I don't think there is a way to make them quieter without a large investment and some major engineering. As said look into a gas ram. I have a 392 and a Blue Streak and I make sure the neighbors aren't home when I shoot them. My Titan GP on the otherhand, I can shoot all day and they would never know, and it is not shrouded. A M-Rod would be an excellent stealth pest controler as well. A RWS 350 would be a great pest eliminator but they are a little louder than the gasrams, but still quieter than a 392.

Even though the standard Benji is rated at 8 pumps max, you don't have to pump it 8 times every time you shoot. I shoot my 392 and Blue Streak in the backyard all the time regardless of the neighbors being home or not. If it's legal to shoot, you have nothing to hide. To be neighborly though, in the backyard (10 to 20 yards range) I usually only pump 4 or 5 times for paper and plinking. Fewer pumps also means a longer shooting session. Even at 6 pumps on a non-'Roid rifle, a well placed shot will take out pests around the yard and still not be too loud.
Indecently, my Crosman 102 from the late '40's is just as powerful as my Blue Streak and quite a bit quieter too. Don't just automatically buy a brand new gun without investigating the classic pumpers. Lots of game (and pests) was taken with the old school rifles.
