2240 accuracy issue fix/bent fron site.

  Have a 2240 with a front sight that is slightly cocked to the right which causes the gun to shoot to the right, even with the rear site adjusted all the way left. As any of you with 2240's know, the rear sight will only adjust so much before it cannot be adjusted anymore. So I was thinking of grinding down the front base area of the sight so that I'll have more room to adjust the sights. I'm almost on target with the gun now, but need more slack to get it right until I get a new barrel, as that's where the issue lies. Have any of you ever taken a little material off in order to do this before? Thanks.

I decided to mount a fiber optic rear sight from a Ruger Blackhawk and give that a shot. The alignment is perfect and the site radius has been extended a good two inches. There is a much better sight picture now and my eyes favor the rear fiber optic/black front blade much better. It looks pretty fancy too.

If you install a muzzle break from a Benjamin discovery, you can position it in any position, and it protects the crown, and looks better than the factory front sight..

  The factory front sight is only pressed on, just grab it and twist.    It will give enough to get you back on target, and centered with the rear sight.   This is a common fault with fresh out of the package guns.

Is it common for the barrel to be loosely fitted in the breech? I've removed the barrel band a few times and the barrel can be twisted and moved around freely. Basically there's a lot of play between the barrel and breech. Also, after removing the front sight, it is obvious that the barrel is either out of play place or that the flat part on top of the barrel that the so sight slides onto is off center. It is not dead center, but somewhere between the 12 and 1 o clock position. I've been learning all that I can about the 22xx platform as of late. Thanks for the replay.

The last 2240 that I bought was just the opposite. The front sight was over to the left. Try as I might I could not move the rear sight enough to make it shoot straight. Then it dawned on me. Loosen the screw holding the front barrel band and loosen the tiny breach screw and move the barrel, front sight and all to the right. Retighten the screws and wala, it worked. I could now sight my 2240 in. Got it? Loosen the breach screw, loosen the barrel band screw, move barrel where the front sight looks straight. It works.

The size allen for the breach screw is a .050. And try to find a good one, maybe Ace hardware. Make sure it is inserted all the way in and squarely. Wrap your hand around the barrel and the CO2 tube and make a fist right in front of the breach. This will take a little tension off the breach screw so you can loosen it. Do not remove it, just loosen it. Then loosen the barrel band screw and turn the barrel until  the front sight looks straight.
