Yikes, I over filled my Discovery

During my first time at using a 4500 tank (current psi approx 3,000) to fill my new Discovery I did not realize how quickly the refill takes place from 1000 to 2000 psi.  When I glanced at my Discovery gauge, it was well passed 2,000 psi.  I quickly took the airgun outside and shot 18-22 pellets before it was below 2000 again :-(  As a result I have two questions: 1) Did I potentially harm my airgun?  2)Was it necessary to actually shoot pellets to reduce the pressure to below 2000 or can the airgun be dry fired without harming the internals? You can be assured I will be purchasing a degassing tool on my next order.  Sure seems like they should come with the Discovery as a safety precaution.  As always, thanks for your replies.

 In reverse order. (2) The Disco can be safely dryfired.   (1) Check the valve retention screws, if they show any setback or distortion, (Screws or holes) replace them, and maybe upgrade to 10-32 LHCS.

I can attest to the fact that Bart knows what he's talking about. 

Save yourself the money on a degassing tool, just get a 10-32 screw at least three inches long and use that.

+1 on checking the retention screws, but I seriously doubt that you will find any damage if you were filling from a tank that only had 3kpsi in it.

And remember to de-gas you can just close your fill valve and SLOWLY just barley crack open your bleed valve and degas a discovery.

How does that work on a Disco?... my FD-PCPs have a check valve in the foster and I don't think that works... I may be wrong.

Disco has check valve too, you just need to "slooooooooooowy" open the bleed just a touch. Too much, or too fast and the foster/check will close on you.

The Disco's check valve is not spring operated and they depend on pressure differential to close. So opening the bleed valve very slowly will permit you to drain the Disco's air tube. Also hold the Disco vertically with the fill adapter pointing up or horizontally will help.With some fill assemblies the bleed valves it will not work as they cannot be opened slow enough.

You can also degas the gun the same way with the hand pump.
