.22 vs .25 m-rod?

I did a search on the subject and its a lot of info to digest.  I have read that the .25 is a rock solid platform,  but the .22 can be a bit iffy. I really like .22 for cost of ownership.  Pellets can be purchased locally,  cost less, more shots per fill. But if I am taking a chance on getting a troublesome gun.... maybe I should be looking at a Hatsan rather than a m-rod?

I have both, the .22 is a tack driver so I guess I got lucky. The .25 uses lots of air, but when it hits its target the Smack puts a smile on your face

I went through this and ultimately I bought the .25 for the higher quality barrel.  The gun is more accurate than I.  But it is too powerful for ground squirrels.  Even shooting H&N Baracuda Hunter Extreme Pellets I have hit nine squirrels (again...  Awesome accuracy!) and on every shot the pellet has gone THROUGH the squirrel including a chin to exit behind foreleg shot (went through about 3.5" of squirrel).  I think Benjamin would not be able to keep marauders on the shelf if they would stop using their own barrels in the .177 and .22 calibers.

Just get both. I bought the original M-rod .22 and lost the lottery. But a call to Crosman got another barrel on the way and it drives tacks now. That gun is my economical, backyard friendly, paper puncher, nutter popper, trash bird killer and I love it. And it shoots Crosman hollow points to perfection. $6.50 a tin at Wmart. My second buy was an original .25. That gun is powerful. According to Chairgun, it has the same foot pounds of energy at 70 yards as the .22 has at the muzzle. It will smackum easily at that range and out to 100 with correct holdover. I love this gun too but it is NOT backyard friendly as it will blow a hole right thru your neighbors fence pickets or the hardy board on his house. Besides tune, the only thing I have done to them is to convert them to bullpups with the MDRL stocks. You can't go wrong with either one if you buy it for your purpose.

at 30fpe, my .22 synrod will do a complete texas headshot at 20 yards. Pass through is just too easy on small squirrels!

If the mrod in .22 is your first choice you should buy one. Granted some .22 barrels are not accurate but I bet the ratio is less than 5% of accurate vs non accurate. As others have stated Crosman will replace the barrel without a hassle if you happen to get a bad one.

You can also get the 10 for 10 from a reputable seller, this will almost guarantee an accurate .22 for $10. With the hammer debounce device installed I am getting 40 accurate shots from my mrod .22 shooting around 24 fpe with JSB 18.1.

Its good to hear that Crossman will stand behind their gun and make it right. Thats what I needed to hear. I will only be able to buy 1 gun. I wish I could buy both, but that's just not going to happen. 99% of my shooting will be in the backyard so I need a backyard friendly gun. .22 for me!

My .22 is a tack driver provided I use Beeman Kodiak pellets.  The Kodiaks are the only pellet the rifle will shoot accurately and I've tried an awful lot of pellets.   My .25 on the other hand is also laser accurate however it will do it with a variety of pellets.   I love my .22 and it's an awesome hunter, but it's a "one pellet" rifle..... which is why I ordered enough Kodiak pellets to keep me shooting for a very long time...... 

All that being said..... I'd say get the .25 with the "Green Mountain" barrel, you won't be sorry you did.

If you get the .22 Mrod make sure to get some 5.52 and 5.53 head diameter pellets. JSB rule in this department!

It shoots the Benjamin 14.3 hollowpoints well, but shotguns the crosman 14.3 hollowpoints, and JSB 14.3's and others.

I bought the gun used, and called crosman (it's still in the year warranty)

They are sending me another barrel at no charge.

I will try it, if it shoots other pellets well. I will keep it on the gun, if not, I will just shoot the Benjamin's.

Do try the JSB 18.13 I believe they are 5.52 head diameter.  My .22Mrod will only shoot them, and boy does it like them!!

That is customer service at its best.. Service like that will only sell more Crosman products. You should be happy it shoots the Benjamin 14.3 accurately, 500 pellets for under $8 is some inexpensive shooting. My Mrod likes JSB's best but the Crosman HP are not far behind.

It sounds like the .22 may be the ticket for you. However, under the usual less-than-ideal conditions I shoot under the 25 shoots much better. It just does not get blown so far off course as the 22. Yes, it is indeed louder, and it does use more air...

I decided on the .22 also thinking I would probably have to try a few barrels out before getting an accurate one. I was wrong. Mine came with a very accurate barrel. It's stacking jsb 18.1's at 25 yds and consistently 1/2 minus at 50.
Now I'm wanting to try out a .25 if I can find a decent deal on one.
