I came across a guy who has one for sale. He bought and brought it back from Germany. Walnut stock in a .177 that's a few years old in excellent shape. Used very little for plinking. He's asking $300 for it. If it is as advertised what would be the real deal for this?? It's more of a want than a need. But who don't like a real deal?

For a lightly used hw80 in good shape, that would be a very good price.

The hw80 is very similar to the Beeman R1, but was focused on the European market whereas the R1 was sold in the US.

Quite powerful and capable of being modified extensively. There are many tune kits available and the gun is easy to disassemble.  As with any HW, it is built like a tank, in terms of both quality and weight.

Search and you will find numerous threads and vids on the hw80.

These are great hunters.  I find the R1 to be a bit too powerful and loud for plinking, even though mine has a reduced power vortek kit (14.5fpe).

Ask about the power level on the gun. If it was made for the German market, it is likely setup with a much lower power spring than guns made for export to the US. If so, easy to fix with a new spring.

Upgrade to American parts, spring, piston seal, breech seal and your great-grand children will enjoy it!

Thanks for the response.... The owner said its a 1000 fps air rifle. I haven't laid eyes on it and would be a long drive to... But it sounds very interesting.

If it was sold in Germany and has not been modified, it does not shoot 1000fps.
800fps at the most.
When you add American spring you might get 1000fps with a 6 grain pellet.
Then you will destroy the rifle.
900fps is doable with an 8 grain pellet.
I have had an R1 (pre-dates the HW80) for 30 years.
930fps was advertised in 1984.
1000fps is advertised today in the USA.
Germany, Canada and the UK have restrictions on power.
The USA doesn't.........yet!

Good deal but I'm not sure about the walnut stock. More like walnut stained beech.

The only walnut HW uses is on the Tyrolean models.
Stock alone is $1000.00+

Only 500 Tyrolean rifles ever made by HW in all numbers...

I had a 55T.
Paid $600.00
Sold it for $1000.00 + shipping..

Short answer,....buy it. Great rifles with lots of potencial.

Absolutely.  If it is as seen on TV then snap that sucker up. It is a wonderful piece.
Velocity not terribly important.
