Thanks for the tips guys, much appreciated.
3rd day it wasnt so bad, occasional slight odor at over 50 yards away, in house it was essentially gone, (
thank goodness
). Wife came came from out of town all week, only bad smell over the weekend was within 20ft or so of the kill zone, nothing in house...
was able to sleep in my "
our
" bed all weekend.
She was glad one less skunk around and thankful the odor subsided when she got home.
Neighbors have been thankful for my taking out the Opossums and Raccoons as they have Chickens and Ducks on their 80 acre lot, mentioned to them tonight about the skunk, they were wondering about that, smelling it so strongly late last week, thanked me again for taking it out, and not near their property.
Apparently there is another Skunk running around they saw just couple night ago.
hoping it goes away...
Skunk kill sprayed the HF DingDonger so bought another on Sunday, last day of the $13.99 sale. Seems to be 2 versions, one that takes the 9volt battery in the sensor and comes in various frequencies as noted with a sticker on the outside of the box, other takes 3 Triple "AAA"'s in the sensor yet no frequency on the box and some reports that this 3 "AAA" version falses often?!?!
Later this week will dig a pit at back of our 3 acres, then with the tractor scoop up the top soil where the skunk was harvested and bury that soil in the pit. should help reduce the "
essence
" of Peppy LePew, to some degree, right?
Any how, bait station is back up and operational, momma is happy, hoping for no more skunks.

Activity has been non existent lately, set up a 2nd bait station, only activity is neighbors cat that likes to nibble now and again. Spook him off and he stays away for a couple/few days then returns.
Side story, couple nights ago around 8ish pm popped a starling from a backyard tree, while packing the yellow beaked carcass to the ditch for the crows and other critters that like to eat them I came face to face with a family of skunks coming out of the ditch towards me head on approx 40'-50' apart, 2 adults and 3 half size! Instant panic, dropped the winged rat while performing the most awkward and clumsy 180 spin ever performed, (in sheer fright) high tailed it back to the back door. I dont recall but I'm sure there was screaming like a little girl running from the boogey man.
Once inside told my oldest and youngest daughter the tale, they wanted to see the critters. We carefully went out high stepping like Elmer Fudd hunting wabbitts, with a sharp eye, didn't see the Skunks. Got closer to the ditch and out of the corner of our eyes we see 3 little noses poking out from the culvert sniffing the air frantically. Rained earlier in the day so a slight stream flowing through the ditch and culvert. I went in and grabbed a package of bottle rockets left over from last years 4th of July, opened the grate on other end of culvert which is approx 40 yards for the end the skunks were in. My redneck thinking was launching the rockets in the culvert would scare them out, they would leave to never come back. One rocket after another into the pipe,
pfhfhfhfh
t..... BANG...
pfhhhfhfhfhfhft
......BANG.
Pfhfhfhfhfhft
..... BANG....they never came out. Could hear them in there squeaking sort of like a rat squeaks. Final barrage was 6 or so bottle rockets all at once, the skunks never came out. lots of smoke billowing out both ends of the culvert, watched for what seemed like 15 minutes or so before we went back inside, no skunks emerged nor did they spray, we assume they left shortly after.

00:20 DingDonger for backyard went off. Sure enough one of those $%&*# skunks was chowing down.
Grabbed the new .25" rig, (
not to be announced till after some transformation
..)
aimed just behind the front shoulder, THUD!. Whole body instantly went erect as if he zapped by an electric fence, tail pointed up, stood there frozen in that position for a second or 3 then ran off approx 30 yards where he collapsed dead, best part,
NO SPRAY
! He did leak a little or they just stink like that, but no spray, thank goodness.
Time for bed gents, good night...

Great read mate!
I was in PA in '08 - got chased by a skunk, and a week later the back of my cabin got sprayed. Horrible stuff!!! Glad we don't have em' here in Oz.
No matter how many times I see them - Your opossums freak me out. They look like they need to be shot - as opposed to ours - that look like they need a hug. Although in saying that - I'm sure the Kiwis on this board would argue that.
I've been thinking about setting up a Bait station for Bunnies at one of the properties I frequent. I hear Apple is the go for them.
Anyway - once again - Good thread and a great read and good shootin'!

BRAAP I keep the Walmart Crosman 760 for cats, pop 'em in the butt and they FLY getting outta my yard, and it keeps them away for a few days..
Took 3 coons last weekend, took a possum @4am this morning, chauffeured him down the road to a resting place in the ditch, all quiet then..

Opossums are very soft to pet. Last Winter I went to feed my outside cat in his heated house. I reached in to put his bowl in and give him a pet or two. Then I looked around and there he was. I went in got a flashlight and looked in his house. Thought it was a stray cat, NOPE it was a Possum smiling at me with it nice white teeth!! How I did not get bit I still don't know but guess the saying don't bite the hand that feeds you is correct. Had a heck of a time getting it out as I think it liked being warm. I now look in before my hand goes in lol.

Thank you gents.
Not much rodent activity lately so took both bait stations off line for a bit, will bring both the bait stations back up soon, Skunks and Opossums for sure, Raccoons in November.

I have found what attracts the most attention is the sound of water,my waterfalls are busy ,way more activity than from a bowl of food, best benefit is, no discrimination, all kinds of critters accepted, which is also the worst part
