What i finally did in 2015 for the last 2 big matches of the season  ( Western States & California State FT championships ) .... went freestyle getting back onto the preferred Bucket with shootin sticks.
While not a recognized AAFTA class, did win BOTH those matches against like FS class shooters.

After 3 previous seasons in Hunter, shooting with the BIG scope actually proved to be HARDER making the game even more challenging.

 Having fun first is always the best way to get started in Field Target

Yeah Scott, I was thinking it might be harder because of the Holdovers will be more at 30 power than at 12 power??
I'll have to play with it and see if I can find a decent power that works for me? Might even go back to 12 power if it will range half way decent?
I guess in unlimited I can range at 30 or 40 power and then adjust and shoot at 12 power?

Unlimited / Freestyle or just shooting in general with a high mag scope, will find ranging is FAR better 30 on up and in application of using HOLD OVER over turret clicking, you will ONLY HAVE your dope values for holdover being valid at one magnification unless having different dopes for other Mag values.
Clicking is DOES NOT MATTER what magnification your at freeing up the Q of range at one value and shoot at another

My scope is kind of redundant now?
Will be fun to use both and compare?

I also got a Sightron FTIRMOA scope from my local gun shop. I traded in a Ruger SR40 pistol and a M1 Garand rifle plus $375 to get it.
I have to say it ranges pretty well. I found it is not temperature sensitive so far between 32 - 73 degrees Fahrenheit. I appreciate that it can range down to 9 yards but I wish there was an option to just range down to 10 yards. Clicking is very consistent although I prefer 1/4 MOA clicks over 1/8 MOA clicks (~1/16" clicks at 50 yards). I find 12 position rheostat for the red dot very handy although I wish there was an auto shut off feature. I usually forget to turn it off after putting the rifle away. So far the battery is still working while set on level 3 overnight several times. I bought a bunch of CR2032 coin batteries just in case I lose power during a match. I am still getting used to the 50x magnification. I sometimes turn it down to 40x or 35x when the mirage gets really bad. I mounted the Sightron on my HW97K for WFTF Piston shooting. With the weight of the scope, it makes the rifle top heavy. I feel that the Sightron really needs an eccentric side wheel because the spacing between 45-55 yards is too close on the 5" side wheel.

I might try getting the non-illuminated 1/4 MOA click version in the distant future for comparison.

Eric at COMPUFOIL makes a wheel called the NAUTILUS ... it a most awesome eccentric design that compresses the in close ranges and expands those further away.

 

At the maximum diameter it equals a wheel of 7 1/2" !!

You can send the scope to the sightron custom shop to change the clicks and reset the parallax to 10 yards.  Changing the parallax from 9 to 10 yards slightly expands the gaps between 45 and 55 yards.
