hw95 vs r9

i need to choose.
pos and neg of each
r9
can get it from man stores, in .20 or .22 same price
has no sights though
hw95
have to get it from AOA
has sights.
havent heard the best about hw lately or AOA.

although AOA has a .20 r9 with sights
i dont know if one is better than  the other,
with PA though at least if the r9 has a problem i can return it.
what do you guys think?

I would buy from PA over AoA if the price is close. PA is easier to deal with if there is a problem and just nicer. The reason I bought the 95 is it can be used without a scope and was $50 cheaper at the time.

From what Ive read .20 caliber is the way to go with the R9/HW95. The negative about .20 pellets is they cost more than .22's and there are less to choose from.

You can also get an HW95L from Precision Airguns.

I would not recommend patronizing AoA, but that's my opinion.

After the 95 purchase I buy elsewhere if possible and within reason($$$). Check out recent threads about AoA then make your decision.

yes , as many good threads as bad for AOA, as of right  now they are the only one who have a hw95

I like the R-9. Nicer stock (unless you get the 95 luxus) I like the weight at the end of the barrel. I feel it makes the gun steadier to aim and should tame barrel harmonics a bit. This is purely my opinion, if you have scientific evidence that this is wrong, then fine, but it seems to be the case for me. Obviously the guns are otherwise the same. If you want open sights, then you choose the 95.

I've only ordered once from AoA. Communication was bad and the ordering process is cumbersome, but my item eventually made it to me. PA just has such great customer service it is hard to beat.

Should be a great gun either way. My R9 is probably the only springer I will keep or ever have once I sell my 460.

I just bought a HW 95 from AOA and it wasn't a problem. I called rather than order on line. The person on the phone was great to me.  I am in the break in yet but so far a little twangy but accurate.  I have a couple RWS 34s but they took a bit to break them in to.

Smag... they all twang... it may go away after many shoots, but a lube tune works wonders... i got hw95 in .20... the only reason i got that over the R9 is that it has open sights... the R9 does not anymore... otherwise they are identical. either retailer will get you a decent rifle.

I have 2 R9's, .177 and .20. As chiro stated, they have a nicer stock and the muzzle brake makes is easier to cock. As for the twang, I have Vortek PG2 kits in both and all there is now is a solid thunk. The shot cycle is short and crisp.

I have the R11 which is the same as a R9. At first it does kick, but settles down after 1500 shots, still has the twang. Very accurate gun and has the power too.

One of the best air rifle decisions I made. After a tune, I will be expecting no more twang just thump when the pellet hits the mark.

   Steve I ordered the HW98, and the HW100 from AoA. Ordering is a little bit of a pain, but no problems. I did notice they waited 3 days to ship. Ordered pellets once, never again packing bites. Ordered 20 tins, and 1 in 4 were damaged.

I'm sorry Steve. For some reason I thought you could buy either the R9 or HW95 at PA. You would be crazy not to save $$$. AoA is $406 shipped $50 less than anywhere I can find. Although SSSO uses Canadian currency and the dollar is worth 10% more, maybe even 15%. Call ssso and find out what it will cost you then make a decision.

I'm a big .20 fan so you know I'm gonna promote that caliber. My advice, get the rifle with open sights. You can always remove them and install a plate and MB. And later if you should decide to go scopeless you'll always have that option. Good luck.
