Is it my imagination?

It seems to me that every time I shoot my spring rifles for the first time there is a 3 shot warm up before the rifle shoots right. This morning I woke up, drank 2 cups of coffee, put 2 new pieces of plywood on my fence and pulled out my TX200. While I did not need a warmup for it this time it was shooting off. I did my normal 5 shot string (grouping), and while if it was any other rifle I would be very happy. I ended up having to adjust my Hawke 8-32X56 scope 5 clicks to the right & 2 clicks up to get where I wanted to be. These were shot at my normal 32 yards, I really do not see any problem taking out pests at this distance. If I ever get an HW80 or 90 I would expect about the same.

Most of my other rifles need the warm up before I do any adjustments. Is it normal for a spring to need warmup shots?

If I understand what I've read.... a lot of things factor into a gun's POI on any given day. Humidity, temperature, wind ect.... probably a lot more than we can even think of.

I have noticed when I miss I usually push my pellets to the left than pull them to the right, but that is just me.

I have to agree with Bill up there, and all the factors that can effect POI from day to day.  If I have my TX zeroed-in, and I am pleased with the groups ...... the next day (at the same distance, angle, etc.) I should not have to make any adjustments to my scope ..... but I think what happens, we simply don't set-up exactly the same, and inevitably have to adjust a click or 2.  I can't say for sure that the TX needs adjustments from day to day, but I would think that lubricants, tars, moly probably thicken up a little over night ..... so those first few shots, the next day, could have less FPE or FPS and probably change the POI?

With that said, one thing I am certain of ...... the rifle may or may not need an adjustment the next day ..... but I always need a few shots to "settle-in".

I notice the same thing with all my rifles also Jess.
I blame the scope cause I KNOW it can't be me.....right??

 I never was able to figure out if the rifles need to warm up or the shooter does, that's why I gave up my quest to hunt with break barrels, .....I can shoot fantastic groups with them but my 1st shot is never, ever all that good

It seems my RWS48 shoots low by about an inch on the first go around and then clears up and gets on target.  The TX200 is right there on shot one.

Booger----- I have three springers and a gas piston , and they all or at least I need  a worm up shot or two. I found this out many years ago with most of my powder burners as well . -----------------Good Shooting to you -------------Papa Smurf

After reading your comments, does anyone of you have a suggestion for people like me that go out to the wood and hunt?  I don't go to the back yard and take a few warmup shots (IT'S DARK); and I have not found many Fox Squirrels that are willing to hang around for me to take a couple warmup shots. [Well, there was that one during the Spring Squirrel Season - but that another story.)  And truthfully, I have not noticed that phenomenon with my Discovery .22.  And I am not complaining.  Could it be only springers and piston guns are affected?

Inflatables do not seem to have the problem, my tuned TX200 is not as bad as some other rifles. Just what I have noticed.

  I think the springers all take a few warm up shots unless they have been tuned and kitted. I can leave my 460 sit for a day or 2 than pick it up and shoot with spot on accuracy. The Kroytec grease and Vortec kit may be the answer  , Although I never change any settings until I settle in

As said before, IMO, there is a process to the artillery hold. I liken it to a Nascar driver. He qualifies with a warm-up lap and 2 attempt laps. This to warm up the car and find his marks on the track. I think everyone here that has experience with a springer has a routine they go through for the shot cycle. I know I do, it's part of the challenge of shooting a springer. Anyone who just drops a bead on a target with a springer and busts it everytime, has great discipline in my book. I'm just not that guy. I need to gather myself.
