Corbin Swaged .250" Spitzer bullets ready soon!

My order is on the way...I've been waiting since last November or something.

2S Spitzer nose with conical base punch leaving a .030" thick skirt edge.

No more inconsistent casting from me...weight ranges will be 35-60 grains, optimized at 55 grains for a 1:14 twist barrel.

More to follow in the next couple of weeks.

I got 250&251, 3/4 E &rebated boattail.on thethe way soon,wont be able to go as low as you,way heavier though.
I believe you said you are getting the "r" version,mine are"s",kinda wish I got the "h"

I reviewed all of my e mails and realized I never sent the 'cancel my order' e mail...I'm a stand up guy so I ordered it and he made it - it just took 8 months. **rolls eyes**

I also got the 'S' dies...I sure hope these things shoot!

If not the dies are going back to be opened up to produce my own home rolled SMK's using J4 jackets, so I didn't just drop $1500 on equipment that is useless!

Heck, who knows...Berger started in his garage!

You need to be aware that there is a limit to the Sectional Density you can drive to a reasonable velocity with given pressure and barrel length.... For example, using 3000 psi in a 24" barrel, any SD above 0.17 is very unlikely to be driven to 950 fps, and in fact 900 is difficult, even with boresize porting....

I'm following both of your progess with great interest.... I wish you all the success in the World, it would be great to have a source for accurate swaged bullets for airguns at affordable prices....

My only reservation/concern is the Spitzer nose profile but I did at least go with the shortest Spitzer.
My hope is the Conical base will slightly move the balance point forward.

An accurate bullet may simply be designated by its length and balance point and whatever it weighs is what it weighs.

Don't worry Bob - I still have your address and will send you samples of what will function in an Mrod magazine.
You and Douglas will be a couple of my testers.

I do find a lot of relief in the fact that I can make a pellet as heavy as todays technology will allow to be used and anything that will be developed.no way to pass gun powder and I would have that covered too, if I choose to make bullets

Do Corbin offer the ability to make a Tangent Ogive nose with a Meplat (say 50-65% of the caliber)?.... It has significant advantages over a Spitzer and no drag penalty when subsonic....

yep,almost anything.I choose all "E" shapes,no meplate.I have button nose for two calibers.and if I use the hollow point punch there would be a meplate measurement of the hole,that can go deeper for a wider area

My Spitzer has a .105" meplat due to the punch pin in the point forming die.
I just got off the phone with Dave...my conical base punch is .25" deep and leaves a .030" thick skirt.
If needed (based on accuracy results) I will have him start tweaking the base punch - first in overall depth, then maybe making the skirt thicker (maybe .040")...he said it produces an absolutely beautiful bullet.
The minimum weight as spec'd right now is right around 33 grains and he said I can take it past 60 grains if needed.
I'm hoping it has the high BC attributes of a pointed bullet but the balance qualities of a diabo pellet...we will see!
I should have my equipment next week sometime.

I ordered a Tangent Ogive (Spitzer) in a 2S configuration - there is a picture of the different Spitzer that are typical. My bullet has the shortest nose...it is still aerodynamic but keeps the nose length short to where the balance point on Border Barrels Bullet Design program shows slightly forward of center - that will shift farther forward due to my conical skirted base and should equate to a weight forward balanced bullet.
This is where I am hoping it will fly true like a diabolo pellet but retain the high BC of the Spitzer profile.

without using the collar I spoke of,you are going to be about 3/4 inch long,not sure what the math says towards 2S profile,but somewhere about 3/8and the bleed holes are at about a half inch from the bottom,you can only go as short as the bleed holes plus your nose shape.now if dave told you those ranges of grains, it was based on no collar and realistic 40 yr guess,odds are pretty good,they are close.skirt thickness changes more grains than you think

I ordered a Core Swage Die with the weight range adjustable from 35-60 grains, so I think your thinking this is a 1 die process with the bleed die.
Then the weight adjusted core goes into the Point Forming Die.
I'm sure Dave would've told me I needed an extension if I needed one (I would hope!).

I'm looking for a bullet between .450"-.550" long - it weighs whatever it weighs.

I changed the conical base punch depth one more time to .140" maximum depth to match the skirt profile on JSB Kings.
The way Dave was going to send my base punch meant my probe would have bottomed out and the bullet would be partially or fully blocking my transfer port.

yes,mine are lswc-s ,do you have two or three steps,and dave didnt tell me about the collar until I had problems going low,corbin thinks bullets,not pellets,I was told that a 14grain pellet was pretty light,in 218.as in why do you want to go that light,where as airgun people just think its is a light pellet

I've been eying the Corbin setup for years, will be very interested in how well this works for you

2 steps as far as dies go.
3 steps total for making complete bullets.

Cut the core from .247" pure lead wire (again, length denotes weight).
Lube it.
Run the core in my .250" Core Swage Die - this is where the bleed function occurs and uniforms the weight and shape of the core (cylindrical). This also squares up the ends of the core to avoid any voids, wrinkles or gaps in the nose and base.
Lube it again.
Run it through my Point Forming Die. This is where the nose profile and base profile are swaged into a final product. I cannot change nose profiles like you can - this is a dedicated die.
