Good job on surprising him.I find younger shooters sometimes have issues with scopes, and either get too close to them or too far away, either way, the eye relief is not correct, and they "can't see" the target.I would suggest a red dot sight, as there is no problem with eye relief, and the dot doesn't have to be centered in the scope. It also does not magnify, so the body shake isn't amplified.A good quality BSA RD30 can be had for $29 at Wally World, and it has both dovetail and picatinny rail mounts.Keep up the good work!
