**UPDATE** Help! Benji Trail won't cock

Not one to give up I dissassembled my Benji again. Made sure everything was seated properly and lined up. Put it back together...(hey, I'm getting fast at this!) Crossed my fingers and cocked it... "dang", doesn't lock up! It's like the gas ram isn't traveling back far enough for the trigger to engage. I forgot to mention in my first post that I also installed Gene's GRS kit. I decided to take her all apart again and remove the kit thinking maybe the nylon piston shaft washer is too thick and not allowing enough travel backwards to engage the trigger spur. Put it all back together and what do you know, works perfect!!!! Anyone else ever have this issue? Why is my GRS kit not working? Gene, could you please chime in.

     Sorry, I don't have an answer but I'm hoping someone will chime in with some suggestions. I'm looking to tear my Trail NP down in a couple of weeks to install the GRS kit as well.

Wondering if you seated the piston sleeve fully, perhaps it is keeping the guns piston from traveling back far enough. Just my .02, have the kit, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

That was the first thing I checked when I suspected something was holding the piston up from going all the way back. I even tapped it with a mallet to make sure it was seated. I wonder if some of these pistons possibly have different stroke length's?

If I remember correctly, Gene said the washer is only for the few guns that may not have a 'socket' inside the piston to keep the forward end of the ram shaft centered inside the piston.

If your gun has a socket, it may mean that the piston face is thicker to allow enough metal to machine the socket inside it. That would move the washer rearward toward the ram body, thus using up ram travel.

My XL has a socketed piston so I won't be installing the washer, just the ram body sleeve.

Now that makes sense. I never knew about the socket thing. I wish it would have been mentioned in the instructions! I'm not sure I want to break down my rifle again to put the sleeve in. After I got it all together I put loctight on all the screws to be done with it. Maybe sometime down the road I'll put the sleeve back on, I'm just tired of fooling with it for now.

It's mentioned on page 2 of the instructions that came with the GRS kit for my Trail XL.

Quote from the instruction sheet.
"Note: The picture is typical of gas ram and piston. Yours may not look exactly like this one. The kits will have a bushing and washer with them. The washer is not needed if your pistion has a deep recessed hole drilled inside front head for ram shaft to fit into. Crosman has made a slight change on the later production pistons and only have a dimple tapered hole at the bottom of piston. This style you will need the washer supplied in the kit. "

My XL is an early production (#130) and has the deep recessed hole, so I won't need the washer.

I'm not sure if this aplies to the Trail NP's.
