Managed to break my Diana 34

My first escapade with homemade spring compressor did not go well. Spring released while I was trying to remove trigger assembly. At first I thought I had somehow gotten by, but then the cocking lever's ears got broken off.  So, where in the world can I find a new cocking lever? Pyramyd doesn't have any and neither do any of the places that a google search turned up. I went to the Umarex website and had to leave a callback number with customer service because of course it happened after hours. Is Unarex my only hope of getting a cocking lever? My Vortek order is supposed to here saturday and I was going to get into the rifle and get ready, now things are on hold...

Yup .... Umarex has the North America exclusive on Diana parts, especially for current production AG parts 
* Don't be surprised if there UNWILLING to sell the part, but instead request you sent rifle to them for the replacement

That is a bummer!  I sure don't want to ship the rifle off to wherever and wait and trust it will ever come back. At least that will give me time to do some re-building of my compressor.

Thankfully you weren't injured.  Damage control for the "first escapade with a homemade spring compressor" could have necessitated a hospital visit.  A call to Umarex is far less traumatic.

You should know by tomorrow the details of a cocking lever order.  Have that credit card ready.

If they ship, you can install the Vortek and have your 34 ready when the cocking arm arrives.

Took the Grandchildren to school and when I got back, I got an email saying that they did have the part. So, I have it ordered and can proceed with cleaning the gun and deburring etc! Happy it is all going to work out. Umarex emailed me also saying they would have the part in two to three  weeks, but did not exactly say that they would sell it to me direct.

What failed? Did your action slip or did your homemade compressor itself fail?
Just wondering because it took me a long time before I felt comfortable enough to make and use a spring compressor. I read horror stories of the mainspring releasing and launching itself across the room into either sheet rock walls or injuring airgunsmith-wannabe's.

The true problem was complete ignorance on my part. I cobbled together a compressor, but when I put the barreled action in it, the barrel was too long. So, instead of stopping and revising my unit, I forged ahead. I halfway cocked tbe barrel and locked it in place. Then proceeded to take the pins holding the trigger unit. Of course when it came free, I had fumbled around enough that it was no longer in contact with the cobbled-up C clamp. Presto! It sprang out on its own. I was happy not to be hurt, but in the process, the lever must have taken a severe amount of energy and broke the ears off...entirely my fault, all the way around.

I wondered this same thing.  I think a company should never put the exclusive right of parts to a company that can then either price gouge or monopolize repairs.

I think most airgunners are okay with that lifetime warranty offer being null and void if they open their own gun up or have someone do it for them.  I had a co-worker whose husband asked that same question today of her husband's anticipated D34 coming in and having me tune it for him.  I told her point blank that it does according to their policy but in the realm of things when you pay for shipping to and from really you're not gaining anything.

So hopefully you can get the parts from the link given and get your rifle repaired without Umarex.  Not slighting them by any means but I hate those monopolies they fashion on folks.

Well, I received the Vortek kit a day early! Tonight being Valentines evening, I won't be able to further my escapades with rebuilding my compressor, but the weekend looks good.

Yes, I agree that one company should not have a monopoly on a product, yet that is the way it is with imports. I tried to purchase a Crosman NP2 (pre-order) this afternoon, only to find out that since I wanted .22 cal, I have to go through an FFL in Illinois now, due to a change in the law, that I have never heard about until today. So, I'll have to mull that over for awhile. I have a large amount of .22 pellets and I gifted my only .22 to my son, so that he could handle a pest problem that he is having… so I really want another .22 and now have plenty of airgun stuff to occupy me for some time! It is a good thing I have a couple other .177's to shoot in the mean time. You can never have too many airguns, can you?

I recieved a replacement cocking lever from England and finished with the Vortek replacing the original spring. Only have had time to get the scope back on and shoot a dozen or so shots. But, I can tell that I like it a lot. I have to go pickup two grand-daughters from school, so that will delay further shooting til later tonight. So far so good...
