So, why did you get into "airgunning"?

I started as a 13 yr old with an old crosman.  Dad was on strike so I was popping rabbits and squirrels in the backyard to supplement our diet.  Mom about gagged but she choked enough down to keep from starving.  It went on from there until I was old enough for modern rifles and traded in the air guns (mistake).  I had the crosman pumper, a blue streak, healthways plainsman BB CO2 gun, a crosman CO2............and probably a few more.  It has been more than 50 years so I forgot a lot.  Recently a friend of mine passed away and his widow gave me he benjamin/sheridan 392PA.  It wasn't working so I did a little research and got the parts from Crosman.  In no time it was working.  Of course I had to try it out so I set up a small 15 ft range in the basement.  With old eyes and open sights I didn't have much hope but WOW I managed to put 5 through the same large hole.  Then I saw a Daisy 880 and bought that.  Two pumps and it is also deadly accurate at short ranges.  So now I spend an hour every evening punching targets from an off-hand position.  It can only make me a better shot with my flintlock guns once this %&^*% winter is over.  I also found an old crosman pumper pellet pistol (.177) that I may try my hand at improving with a stock and longer barrel, red-dot sight, other stuff as long as I don't squander too much of the social security check on this hobby.

As I think about it my previous statement was not completely correct.  You see I never really got out of AirGuning, just reduced it for a few years (ok a decade).

I started when I was 8 years old, beginning with Rabbit hunting with an older wood stock gun of my Grandpas, at the time my practice gun was a Crosman 760.   When I was 10 and my Grandpa thought that I was responsible enough he gave me a Daisy Air Riffle that was powerful enough to hunt with.  I just finished looking at some really old stuff and that gun was a Daisy 880 (I had forgotten the model).

My grandpa taught me to hunt with AirGuns and he always hunted with the AirGuns.  He told me that Airguns are better than Powder burners because they do not cause as many problems and they are generally a lot quieter than the powder burners.   This had nothing to do with my age as he maintained this line into my adulthood.     At some point in there some one decided to outlaw hunting with Airguns where we lived at the time (that decision has since been reversed).

I maintained a more passive interest after that and almost always had a pellet rifle.  Then last year I got back into Airgunning heavily.

Just what I need, another expensive hobby. With multiple slipped, ruptured, and crushed discs, I do need a less physically punishing hobby.
Probably best that my doctor and my chiropractor both advised strongly against this one:

1. space restrictions.
2. distance to safe range for pb's.  (ppg/mpg)
3. pb ammo cost....
4. general histaria about "bad" looking airguns.

Yep!  Same here.  Those critters owe me some meat for all the seedlings and sprouts they nibbled off to ground level.

The local firearm ranges are 25 and 35 miles away and rimfire ammo has gotten way to pricey!  Can shoot pellets in the back yard and keep a low profile.

I live in Arizona, never have to suffer from that particular stygma. I still find time for my airgun, and occasionally my PB's as well.

Yea and neighbors and cops just don't have any sense of humor regarding such things!  I had a pool guy servicing the next door pool give me a sideways look and act all nervous when I was shooting my 880s in my back yard..

I used to shoot every single day when I was a kid.[Red Ryder] Joined the Army, and got out of airguns. One day about 5 years ago I saw a Big Cat on sale and thought it would be fun. I was hooked. Been down hill ever since. I love my powder burners but I LOVE my airguns.
