Crosman 2200 Magnum Acuracy Fix

A couple years ago I picked up and excellent older (80's) Crosman 2200 Magnum in a package deal for $15.00. As far a shooting was concerned it was more like a shot gun. At 20 yds with Crosman HP's it was 6" spreads, with old Minute Man English Bull Dog's it was 4" and with the only decent pellet it would shoot was cheap Daisy Wad Cutters at about a 2" spread.
Started reading up and decided it was the barrel floating around in the shroud. So I pulled it apart and trued the end of the barrel in my lathe, cut a 60 degree crown and polished it. Next found 3 big fat rubber o rings that were a tight fit on the barrel. Chucked the barrel into the lathe and turned the o rings down until they were a tight fit into the shroud.
That was all it took and now I can drop every Daisy Wad Cutter again and again into a bottle cap at 20 yds. All I have mounted for a scope is a cheap Center Point 4X but works great.
Hard to believe it can shoot this good. Don't have any idea what it does at 8 pumps but it will penetrate steel cans with soft wad cutters that will stop other .177 rifles with hard pointed Crosman pellets that I know are doing between 700 - 750 FPS.

Thanks for the idea! I've seen delrin spacers and even foam spacers but I hadn't thought about O-rings.

I used big, FAT thick o rings. Don't use thin every day ones, get the fattest ones you can find. The ones I used had come from a motorcycle shop. They had been factory Kawasaki motorcycle o rings for some thing.
They were a real tight fit on the barrel and the OD was to big to go into the shroud. I just mounted the barrel with all 3 o rings at the same time on the lathe and proceeded to turn them down with a sharp bit.
I can now do 3/4" groups at 20 yds with cheap Daisy Wad Cutters.
