Anyone dabbled with their shroud?

In an attempt to quiet down my trail a bit, I tried doing a couple things to the shroud. I opened up the holes in the end cap to 3/16, and it did not make a huge difference. I then took it apart again, and drilled 4 1/16 holes at the rear of the tube just I front if where the tapered cap goes on to let the air escape. Now it doesn't make such a "snap" out the muzzle, but it's still not where I want it. I may try to make some baffles to go inside the shroud. Has anyone else had success quieting their trail?

I think I may try using scotchbrite to make the baffles. I think that should diffuse the air pretty well. Maybe drill more holes in the end cap as well

Some folks use Magic Eraser for the baffle.

No changes to the shroud and or additions to the shroud will make it quieter. Been there done that.
The only thing that can quiet the trail np is a plastic stop at the end of the compression chamber and or a custom piston seal with a nipple on it ( not made yet ) to prevent metal to metal contact slam when the piston comes home.
The piston slamming home is the sound you are hearing.

I would tend to agree with Shorty. I did a test prior to investing effort into fitting a LDC to my Trail NP. Set a remote recorder up to get both unsuppressed and a shot with a 2L gatorade bottle in the infamous soda bottle setup. Assuming the plastic bottle was at all effective as a LDC, there was no perceptible reduction in sound at the remote recording site. Same thing with a RWS 48/52 which is actually a bit quieter than the Trail though a lot more powerful.
Have to agree it is piston noise we hear, not muzzle blast like on a CO2/PCP. Why internal buffers are not fitted may be a good question for the airgun experts around here.

Come to think of it. The seal may not need a nipple. The end of the piston where the seal goes onto is tapered fit. Actually, the seal fit is very tight and hard to remove and or put back on. Now I am curious to know if the end of the piston is ground down a little to expose plastic instead of metal, would it deaden the sound a little better.
while on that topic, I am also curious to know if FPS would be increased since there may be some extra stroke.

Curious to know why after 3,500 shot my Titan shows no evidence of ever slamming the piston into the end of the compression tube. I thought this too until I was told that even in a dry fire the piston stops and rebounds slightly and then settles on the stop. I even opened my air passage way from .123 to .138 and although so very little difference in velocity, I did make a smoother shooting and more accurate rifle.
