From the prints and diagrams I can see online it doesn't look like it is needed for structure but is there to prevent accidental discharge....

KJ - Keep the trigger guard.  I managed to break one, didn't notice it catch on the trigger when I cocked the gun, and put a round into the siding on my house.  Needless to say, I repaired the trigger guard post haste.

ok, i gotta ask...how'd you break the trigger guard ? and a few stray shots adds excitement to life and keeps everyone around you on their toes...lol..joking

thank tom..i'm thinking of cutting it off and dropping the frame into a rifle stock and shaping  the wood as the trigger guard.

You just had to ask how I broke the trigger guard, didn't you?  It was on a Crosman Nitro Venom rifle.  I was removing the rear trigger guard screw to pull the action out of the stock.  The screw is accessed through a hole in the PLASTIC trigger guard.  The rifle rolled a bit while the screwdriver was inserted in the screw.  There was enough torque to break the guard.  Fortunately they use a PVC plastic and I have a lot of PVC primer and glue for repairing my irrigation pipes.

I have since replaced all screws holding the barrel with Allen head screws.

Good luck on your marriage with the wood stock.  Regardless what you do, trigger guards are there for a reason, as I learned the hard way.

Hey, KJ, do you BUILD custom stocks?  If so, look through some of the posts for the last day or so.  There is one titled "Achtung" or something like that.  The poster is seeking a stock builder.  Just thought I'd check.
