Tuning Time for the Venom

 I've finally have every thing to lube and tune my Venom. I had a hard time finding the right hone, I ended up getting a 320 grit because nobody within 60 miles of me had a 200 and 400 grit. I could find 220 grits all day and no replacement stones at 400. I finally found a hone with the 320 stones so that's what I ended up getting. I have the brass washers and bushing from Gene. Who is one heck of a nice guy, he called me about my order and we had a nice little chat (thanks Gene) I have my new piston seal from ARH. I have different grades and grits of emery cloth, I have a new bottle of blue locktite thread sealant. I bought a new tube of SuperLube grease I have some synthetic caliper grease that was recommended for the metal piston housing. I have all the cleaners and tools, I AM READY 
 So the next thing will be to find the time I will be at the Fire Station tomorrow and if we get all our chores and scheduled work done I will attempt to start on it. Thanks for all the great info

You are going to love your Venom tuned up. I bought a Shadow tuned Venom Dusk with a CDT trigger and man, she is smooth. Even smoother since I installed Gene's washer kit. That's a Trail NP 22 barrel she is sporting. She may not be the fanciest gun I own, but definitely one of my favorites and a joy to shoot.

 I think my next is going to have to be one of those Dusk Venom. I love that black stock. I really wanted one to begin with but the wooden stock is the one that was on sale. Thanks LoeTomCat, I appreciate that.
 I could'nt wait so last night I tore her again. Usual rough edges and nasty black oil. The piston seal was definitely messed up, so good thing I bought the new one. And the breech washer on the left side was very loose as compared to the right. Today will be clean, sand, hone and lube. Just won't be able to shoot until tomorrow, besides it will give the locktite time to cure

Got it all tuned and lubed  But I nicked the new seal a little  I took it back out and kinda rounded the nick with some 400 sandpaper. It still looked better than the old seal I took out. I guess I'll be getting another seal

Yes I understand that but I missed the trigger bolt hole and it nicked the outer edge

the factory seal in my gun looked like it had been whittled on by a drunk with a utility knife and it still produced respectable FPS

I got my new seal and moly paste from ARH Monday but I was on duty. I was surprised to have gotten my order that fast, I ordered the new seal and paste on Saturday and got it on Monday. Couldn't stand it just sitting there so last night at about 9:30 I tore into it. This time I paid special attention the trigger mount screw hole and the trigger hole. The new seal was tight but I got it back in with no problems.
 The only thing I didn't do was to relube the compression chamber from the first new seal but I thought it probably was still good. I only put about 100-150 rounds through it before changing it. I did put a very light coat of SuperLube on the seal and the first couple inches of the tube to help get it in and past the first holes.
 Is this going to be to dry or should I have relubed the compression chamber also?
 I did put my new Delrin linkage slider on and cocking it sounded and felt pretty smooth. I had a good first shot detonation so should that be a good indication of adequate lube in the chamber? The next three shots sounded a little different than it did before but it was dark and almost 11:00 when I shot it into the back yard. Today I'll be testing it again when I get home.

Detonation with the first few shots is not bad as long as it goes away by about 20 shots.....

If you lubed the chamber correctly it will quiet right down and stay lubed...
