I think I'm not alone in having problems with the Beeman R1 safety. Sometimes it will not let the gun go into firing mode (pull the trigger and nothing happens). And when you touch the safety from the right hand side, the gun fires by itself. A dangerous condition. There is only the notch on the safety bar that allows the gun to fire. But sometimes the notch will not be in the proper position when the safety is pushed in. I have tried to cut away as much as I dared of the safety bar on the left side so it doesn't interfere with the sear letoff, but the problem still persisted. To end the problem, I took the safety bar out of the gun. I was wondering if someone has created a different safety that could be installed in the existing hole for it.

Write to Weihrauch and get another one.
You don't mess with safeties.
The R1 has one of the finest.
I have had my R1 for 29 years.
The safety has functioned flawlessly for over 252, 000 shots.
It was probably dirty.
I hope you don't try to sell this R1.
Pyramid Air repairs R1 rifles. They may have a extra safety.
This is the kind of stuff that gets me pxxxxed off and gets people killed!

it sounds like to me the trigger is not adjusted correctly, if adjusted to light the safety will not work correctly!

Mark, I have played with the Rekord trigger off the gun to study how it works. I am sure it is not the trigger setting being too light. The problem is definitely the sear lever to safety bar contact on the left side of the notch on the safety (when the safety is pushed in to fire position). I could take off some more metal off the left side of the notch, but as it is now, when I cock the gun, the safety bar flies right out of the hole.

theirs also another thing it could be theirs a little piece of metal in the area of the safety if it gets bent out of shape it will cause the same thing to happen

Knows that trigger like the back of his hand. He is correct on the settings of the trigger.
How do I know? Mark warned me of this and yes I found out the hard way. No damage but the gun will go off if out of adjustment.
Question? Have you had the trigger out?

The culprit as outlined in the owner's manual and Tom Gaylord's book....The rear trigger guard screw cannot be tightened. Just snugged up. If you do it screws up the safety.

Redude is correct as well. Same in the bam's.
I have the HW80 .20 along with other guns with the same trigger. Hw80 .20 is so sweet.

Alright, alright, I hear you guys. I'll take another look at the trigger adjustment and safety tonight. I'll post back here if I get the safety working correctly. Thanks again guys.

The R1 is fixed. Here is the scoop on it. The trigger did need adjusting, the adjustment screw behind it was stopping the trigger movement as the trigger was pulled back. Screwed that in some. The misfire was still there though. The gun would fire if the safety was held in all the way and the trigger pulled. Aha! The right side of the safety notch was now hindering the letoff. Cut away about 1/16" on the right side of the safety. Reassembled the gun and fired it a dozen times. Works OK now. Also had to pry back that little tab on the left side of the trigger housing that keeps the safety from flying out of the receiver.

I believe the OP was referring to the Adjustment screw..not the guard screw.
Not too say you didn't contribute. We are all here to help each other.
In fact if , should you have a link to that article I would be very interested in reading it too.

Just the same...unless I missed something here....that trigger and safety worked correctly at one point. So what changed that caused you to have too modify a part that was known to be good?
If it was functioning before you went exploring and not after That's were the problem lies....
I sincerely hope you do not have any problems with it in the the future.

Just to clear up a few things about my malfunctioning R1, I had this R1 for over 20 years. The problem was there when it was new, but rather than send the gun back, I thought it was something I could fix later. It was in my gun cabinet for all of the years. I did have other airgun shooters look at it and get their idea of what was wrong with it, but it never got fixed till now. I had other airguns to shoot that kept my mind off this R1. It may still be too early to say if the problem will not come back, and if it does, I'll post back here. The R1 can be shot without the safety in place, just like my HW50S which is an early one that never came with a safety, so not a big deal.
As for why the trigger adjustment screw was so far out that it stopped the trigger from being pulled completely back (trigger touching the screw), I must have done it while studying the trigger.

Things just happen!! At least you are educated on the trigger group. If you had been shooting it quite a bit I would have guessed it backed off. But since you were dabbling with it, WHO KNOWS.
