1980 BSA Mercury teardown

Just tore down my brothers BSA Mercury he bought new in 1980. I have to source parts for it now. I already sprayed a lot of it with break cleaner to get rid of 33 years of gunk. I think I scraped off the remnants of a piston seal. Here are a few pics

interesting that to take apart you have to unscrew the trigger assembly unit and try and keep pressure on it. Assembly will be tricky to keep from cross-threading. I found the parts I need in UK for about $30 shipped...a bit pricey but I ordered them.

that is going to be a fun project when completed. Did you source the parts from Chambers?

I looked at Chambers but best prices were airgunspares.com.

Wow- that's going to be beautiful. I'd love to have one of those, but the only one I've seen for sale was in England, and it's a good bit of hassle and expense to have one shipped here. Congrats!

Hmmm...since the piston seal is basically an O-ring, should I cross-hatch piston chamber with 320grit paper and burnish with Moly or hone to a mirror finish and no moly?

O-Rings do better with a smooth finish and an actual sliding grease like Krytox than they do with Moly paste, look up nced and his O-Ring Sealed R9 for an example....
