Any GOOD laser bore sighters out there?

I make do with a cheapo I bought at Wally world for ~$30 earlier this year. It has attachable tips of different diameters (calibers). Does fine by me. Just have to recognize its limitations. It's good enuf to get my rifles very close to being on target without any shooting. Just used it yesterday to sight in a scope on a Hatsan 125 Sniper .22. Had to jury rig the bore sighter tho because the 'muzzle brake' on the rifle doesn't allow a good anchor for the bore sighter so what I did instead is using two pieces of bicycle innner tube as rubber bands, rubber banded it to the under side of the muzzle brake. I initially neglected to allow for the non-uniform diameter of the boresighter so it was indicatiing high but once I 'shimmed' the front of the bore sighter with a 3mm allen key/wrench it was indicating just a bit low at ~12 yards indoors. Worked like a charm. Test shot it later in the day & it was shooting ~3/4" high & ~1" to the left at 25 yards so it was quite close. I had first mechanically/optically centered the scope using just the turret rotation method, ie, count the number of rotations & place the turrets in the middle of the rotations. I've compared the results  to those using the v-block (vee-block) method &  it's always quite close so I've just been using the turret rotation method ever since. And allowing for the limitation of the boresighter, especially in the above configuration, I just check for vertical placement of the bore sighter laser indicator. If it's close enuf I just test fire the rifle. Otherwise I'll add an appropriate vertical adjustment compensator.

Thats the problem with boresighters, if you have a shroud or ldc or muzzle break, it's hard to get them to work properly.

But, really, the boresighter is just to get you on paper, small paper perhaps, but it isn't intended to get you a zero.  I've had good luck with the laserlyte system, gets me close at 25 yards, then I can fine adjust by actual shooting.  Use it whenever mounting scopes on airguns (if I can get past the shroud) and PB.

The "Laserlyte" brand I got from Midway a few years back is fairly good quality, with a goofy on-off switch.

The laser is well aimed as rotation in the bore will show.  Not so the el-cheapo Bushnell or whatever I got from Amazon.  That thing is all over the place.  I seriously looked at the screws in the side of the laser head to see if I could correct the aim.  Ended up thowing it in the drawer.

The LL continues to work well, have spuds for .22 up to 12 ga.  Dunno if they make .17 but suspect they do with the PB cartridges.  They have a more $$ green laser with higher intensity.  I just put a piece of reflective material on a palm tree 25 yards away from my work bench for an easy day target.  If you are careful, stop signs make good daytime targets as well.  I have one 110 meters away, conveniently. 

Anything that prevent the laser taper from mating up with the actual bore of the barrel will skew things.  Maybe not enough for "close enough" to get on paper.  Have gotten within inches on a PD after removing flash hider to mate with bare bore.

The most interesting thing with airguns so far I have found is how far below the POA the barrel can be from the POA of the sight, and then impact well above said sighting point.  Extreme muzzle jump I guess, no wonder the darn things are hard to shoot well.

Hmm, well what I wanted this for was my new Hatsan 125 sniper, so I guess I am SOL

Shouldn't be a big deal sighting in without lasers.  Do 10yds first, (it should shoot 1-1.5" low @ 10yds),  then move out to your "zero point" you decide on and sight in.

True, that's how I sighted in my phantom. I just thought it might be a lot easier and more precise with a laser, but no biggie I guess.

I have just never seen the need for bore sighters for individuals.  A store might have need for one, if they mount your scope and want to give you something that has a reasonable chance of hitting paper.  But for individuals, shoot once and watch where it hits (a friend spotting for you is handy, as well as a close dirt berm behind the target to see hits in case you are way off).  Adjust.  Shoot a second time.  Use your brain to calculate the effect of the first adjustment and use the result to adjust a second time.  Your third shot (or fourth shot if you are bad at math) should land where a bore sighter would have put you.

The dirt berm to see way off target hits works for firearms, probably not for air guns since they wouldn't kick up a dust cloud after hitting the berm.  So you have to start closer with an air gun so you don't miss paper.

Bore sighters have weak little lasers in them, so finding one that will work outside on a sunny day at other than point blank range might be difficult.
