What are the advantages of an underlever compared to a breakbarrel? Which do you prefer and why?

I like the weight of the break barrels for carry and off hand shooting ( I have a split bicep and it makes it difficult to hold steady heavy forward biased guns ).  For much the same reason I prefer side cocking guns over underlever, though I only have one Diana 48 and a Baikal 61.

Underlevers and sidecockers have fixed barrels, which, in theory, contribute to accuracy.  A well-made break barrel that locks up consistently will still be very accurate.  I personally don't have a preference, as I've not really noticed a big difference in accuracy between them.  It just comes down to features and price for me!

Both of my underlevers tend to be more consistantly accurate than my break barrels.

The most obvious advantage an underlever has to a break-barrel is the fact that the barrel is fixed, utilizing a separate cocking arm. Therefore, over time at least, any problems that may occur with accuracy or consistency due to repetitively breaking the line-of-fire, so to speak, do not exist.

I've never used an underlever but would say that I prefer the versatility... and indeed availability... of break-barrels.

For one thing, there is less barrel droop with a side or underlever as compared to a breakbarrel I would assume. What's a good underlever for $300 or under? I was looking at Hatsan Torpedoes. Heavy guns though.

Don't discount the side lever Diana's, they look a bit ungainly but they cock and shoot really well.  I bought mine used in that price range and it had been really well set up by the previous owner.

The CFX or the new CFR by Gamo, has a very good reputation as a deadly accurate 12-14fpe class of underlever.   Sweet shooter that balances out well. Lotsa fans here. My old 2004 model is one of my "keepers".  The new ones are supposed to be even quieter than mine.  Add a GRT trigger (if you prefer), and you'll have a fine target and hunting rifle.

My pop has a CFx he likes alot. I don't. . But he is happy with it. LOL

I would also look at and rcomend the Diana's if you want a side cocker.

The Gamo has a good rep, but I like good old fashioned wood and steel. Gamo uses too much plastic. Maybe I will keep an eye open for a used Diana.
