Benji Trail NP barrel lock up

Hello all,
My trail NP has given me POI problems since Ive owned it. It is always vertical, never left or right. Never know where it will shoot. I always thought it was barrel fouling because it seemed like after Id clean it ,accuracy comes back somewhat. Well today I got thinking about it and after checking stock screws for tightness, I tried wiggling the barrel while in the lock up position. It seemed to have play so I tried an experiment. I rested the barrel itself on my bean bag which I thought would keep it tight. What a difference! So my barrel isnt staying in the full up position all the time. Now my question to you all is, what can I do about it? I push on the detent and it seems a little rough. Do you think the spring could be weak? Are they hard to change? Thanks for any and all help.

now is it the barrel lock up or the barrel shroud that's bad? now the shroud is held on by a 1/4 Allen from the muzzle end, maybe try taking it off and see what you got?allot of my problems on accuracy with my trail 22 NP,was the crown, and the trigger, once i re-crowned it and put a grt3 trigger on it,its dime groups at 50yards.if i do my part, also found the best hold position on mine was with my thumb in the for-stock screw hole, while resting in a artillery hold on a chair or what ever.and it does great with all pellets i try now, good luck with yours,i have never done any work on the live jam lockup.

It is also possible that you have bad pivot washers. I will just about guarantee that is your problem. Have you replaced the plastic pivot washers with BRass yet? If not, order the washers from Gene at
http://www.airguntoys.com/
They are cheap and will solve the movement problem real quick. IF that does not fix the issue then contact crosman and get a new lockup and spring. After that, you should have ZERO issues with barrel movement.
Also be sure not to allow your barrel to slam back into lock, or to smack it to lock. This WILL bend your barrrel up. Also, too much pressure in the downward cocked position will do the same. Make sure to also remove the shroud as stated by supertech and check your crown.
If you need more help, let us know!!!

Vertical shot stringing and the ability to group with barrel rested suggests that the problem is a weak loackup, and not a shroud or crown issue. You can easily remove the shroud and try it, and at the same time inspect the crown, for sure. But it believe you have the ubiquitous crosman loose lock-up issue. There is a ton of info on this and other forums about the problem. The solutions to this include brass pivot washers, breach seal shims, breach seals, alive jam spring shimming, alive jam grinding, etc etc. I have 5 of the Crosman B18/19 variants and some have had similar problems to what you describe, all successfully resolved with one or more of the aforementioned tweaks. My Venom took all of the tweaks to get it to lock up consistently. The extra weight of the barrel shroud (or just a heavy muzzle break) can exacerbate this inherent problem with this platform. Now, there are some of these rifles that don't suffer at all from this issue... count yourself fortunate if you have one of those. I you do have this problem, don't despair... it is likely fixable. When you get a good lock up these rifles are quite good and accurate.

Jim,
Did you ever get your detent issue straightened out?
I ordered all the parts, spring and detent; from Crosman.
I installed them, the spring was much longer, too long in fact; the original is 6 turns and the one Crosman sent me is 7.5 turns..
There must be different parts for the rifle age.
I also ordered the pivot bolt, it will not fit , too large...
I'll call Crosman next week to see if they sent the wrong parts.
Take care,
Mark

Map,
I made brass washers and tore the alive jam apart and the spring is damaged. Have to order some parts from Crosman but Im hoping thats the problem. Love the gun but it's not worth a hoot if it isnt accurate...
