Storing cartridge in a 2240

I'm pretty sure this topic has been addressed before but I didn't find it in a cursory search so I'm asking again.
I just received my 2240. Reading through the instructions, I was struck by the fact that they emphasize not storing a CO2 cartridge in the pistol. I have a Tech Force 78 and have encountered no problem in leaving a partially filled cartridge in the rifle so I'm wondering about this issue. Is there really a problem with leaving a partially filled, or even full, cartridge in the 2240? What problem(s) might arise if this is done routinely?

I have a new 2240 and I wondered the same thing until I did some checking. From what I've read, it seems that Crosman is concerned about saying that you can store a CO2 cartridge in the gun because the gun would be ready to fire and from a liability concern they do not advise it. I have read that it is OK to store a cartridge in the gun for up to a month at a time but longer than that risks damaging the CO2 cartridge seal. I use a drop of pellgun oil on the tip of every cartridge in mine. Maybe someone else has another opinion but so far I have not had any problems.

Okay, I'm not an authority, but I can tell you what I know from my own experience...
I've put countless guns away -- several of them 2240's -- with the CO2 cart still in them, and I've never had any problems.
Here's the main reasons I think they put that warning in the manual:
1) liability -- if they TELL you not to store it charged up, and then someone picks it up and pulls the trigger, the company can say "hey, we warned you".
2) liquid CO2 getting into the valve -- less "self-interested" than reason no. 1, but liquid CO2 in the valve can cause problems, like blown seals. If you do store a CO2 gun charged, try to orient it so the neck of the cartridge is "up", or rather, "not down". Does that make sense? It's early...
