xs28m difficult to break the barrel

gave my xs28m to a friend. he never had a gun before and loves it.
he text me yesterday the the gun had locked up. he could not cock it.
well i had found a c-clip on his basement floor and figured it was the cocking arm. checked a diagram, checked with MM.
Told my friend i'd come over and fix it.
turned out the clip came from MY b28 and his was ok.
but i could not break his gun open.
finally i gave it a good slap and it broke.
so it must be the ball bearing where the gun locks up.
is there any kind of maintenance that should be done there?
the old one looks just like the new one to me so it seems to be intact .

I just out a dab of moly on the detent ball. Hasn't been a problem on mine.

There might be a piece of metal shard in there.
Could also give it a blast of brake cleaner, to clean it out, flush out anything in there.
Then do as paul said, moly it up.

Asked Mike about that recently. Apparently on the 28 the detent ball is pressed in, so no easy way to remove it.
