Are you using the 12 fpe version of the kit? Those vel. numbers look very low to me since my Vortek´d (full power version) HW 97 in .20 cal clocks far better velocities at 830+ fps, 11.4gr H&N FTT ..

One simple question, how did you lube the seal and piston, the most two parts inside the compression tube of HW97k.

I lube with a small artists paint brush for the side of the seal and the piston body. I also wrapped some cotton cloth on a dowel and taped to secure it. Painted some lube on the cloth and lubed the inside of the compression tube. Twisting motion in and out a few times made for a nice light layer of lube.

I lubed exactly as told/shown in the assembly guide that followed with the kit. Very lightly and used the grease provided in the kit.

underlevers are known for breech seal issues and need to be replace more often than break barrels! HW breech seals don't last long! I would get some breech seals from Vortek, they are a harder seal than the factory ones and will hold up to the consistant `pressure the on the tube from the spring better, at least from my experience, and their bettter than the JM breech seals for this application, JM seals are to soft for sliding compression tubes, at least his HW seals are! JMO

Way ahead of ya! Ordered a few extra Vortek seals with the Vortek kit and changed when the kit went in...  How often do you change those seals anyway? Or should one make a leakdown test every now and then ??
Got a couple of those seals from ARH too, green in color. Are those any good??

Those seals are to soft for sliding compression tubes {JM green seals} but they work good in the break barrels! the red Vortek HW breech seals are allot harder and due hold up better IMO on these types of guns form my experience! Theirs no way to releve the pressure on the seal of an underlever or side cocker so the seal is under constant pressure from the main spring! so unlike a break barrel which IMO should be left broke open when not in use to keep the breech seal from being under constant compression, to keep them from getting flattened prematurely! JMO

The new vortek (white) breech seal was installed also while the kit was installed, again for Beeman HW97k. Accuracy speaking, not much difference, still holds a 1/4" at 21 yards.

But the red Vortek HW breech seal you mentioned does not exist on Vortek website. I searched 'breech seal' and all it came up are either white or black .

Nevertheless, twang is gone, action is smoother. What can I expect more?

BTW, what scope do you couple with your AR? and how long ago?

those seals change color per run so they my not be red at this time! I've used all kinds of scopes form Leapers to Bushnell! I've had really good luck with the Leapers 3x9x40AOMDIR scopes! I have not had any 97's for awhile now but you need to let the new kit breakin and 1/4'' groups? what pellets are you shooting?
Here was my Beeman HW collection I had awhile back and you can see most of them were scoped with Leapers scopes!
