fishing chum!

A friend of mine says when he goes catfishing he uses chum in a bucket using cheese,milk,chicken blood and livers,beef kidneys and putting it in a old 5 gallon paint bucket closing the lid and setting it out for 2 weeks till its nice and ripe then he takes it with him to the lake pokes holes on the top ties it of to the boat weight it down and dumps it he claim the stench attracts catfish like crazy anyone fish like this???

sounds right,,the stinkier the better! we used rotten chicken guts, our BBQ was full often,hehe

I have used cans of dog food and poked holes in them to bait a spot up and for sure it works.  Thanks David

The Channel Cats in SE MN like a fresh creek chub or shiner. run a hook through the dorsal fin and slice open the belly from vent to gills. The fresh blood really calls them in. Put them on a 1/2-3/4 oz slip sinker and hit the bottom.

Depends on the species of catfish. The flatheads on the upper Mississippi seem to like the stinky stuff. I don't know about the blue cat or others as these are the 2 we have up here.

 Yup, the mud cats like the stinky stuff and the channel cats are more likely to hit a minnow.. live caught shad is the best bait down here for the channel cats. I don't fish for mud cats but i have bought stinkbait and given it to various different family members for Christmas after i rolled the "dough" into dog &^^&-like piles neatly arranged in a box and wrapped. My brother in law eyes every present from me with suspicion to this day even though it was 15 years ago when i gave him that "box of dogs*it"     i still laugh about that... shoulda seen his face right before he open the box, 15 years and i'm still dyin over that one..

I've done much the same thing. I pull the testicles off a white-tale deer and thoroughly dry them and put them on a string that you can hang over your rear view mirror. That way when people get in your truck and ask "what is that?" you can tell them!! I've given many sets away as Christmas gifts.

Chicken lips...............nothing quite like a mess of deep fried chicken lips. The ones left over can go into a bucket to stew in the sun for about a week, add a little Bat @$%^, the mud cats will jump in the boat to get to it. The larger chicken lips look good hangin on a string from the mirror............chicken lips are way over looked for there usefullness.......

 Come to think of it deanda, no one gives chicken feet enough credit either... you ever seen how big those things get? hotglue a couple 3 little eyeballs on top of a chicken foot and hide it in the silverware drawer... you and the wife can laugh for years to come.. it's why God made video recorders i think maybe.

We never chummed for catfish but if u need salt water recipies I got a guraenteed one for sharks and alot o other fish.
