So i took the big cat over the fiances parents house (where she lives), and took my steel targets for the .22lr with me. I started shooting and my fiance said " that looks funner then shooting paper, I want to try!" So i hurried her over and taught her some saftey along with how to use the big cat. She took aim for about a minute and heard PING! She took aim again and we heard PING. She started to get a little too confident and missed the third one. She got upset and said she was done. I was able to talk her into trying because everyone misses. She she tried, and we heard PING!. With the last two plates up she took aim once again and hit both. Man was I happy today. Especially after the comment " I want my own gun". To think that this was coming out of her mouth after hearing how I am crazy to spend money on the mrod in a few weeks. Maybe Ill get her a marauder pistol for her to shoot.
Felt like i should share the experience.

Hate to hear that for you bro. Now your fun money will have to be devided. And to someone that may make it her mission to out shoot you. Maybe she'll lose interest and you can reclaim the gun/s you buy for her.

Dude, that is AWESOME! I really wish I could get my wife into shooting. I haven't gotten out to shoot since before we moved except for a few indoor groups I snuck in while she was out and about with the girls. I haven't plinked in MONTHS! Congratulations on sparking her interest, now you gotta add some kindling and fan it to a flame! Better get a couple paintball tanks and a degasser for that MROD so she can plink to her heart's content without the workout from the pump. She'll come around in no time...

I suggest that you start her off with an accurate low power rifle.
As you noticed, if she misses, she will loose interest.
Higher velocity/power = more vibration and recoil = harder to shoot accurately.
And the better the rifle fits HER (not you) the better she will feel and shoot.
Example, I no longer shoot full size rifles, I shoot junior size rifles as they fit me better.
You experienced why shooting steel or similar is more fun for most people than a 10-ring target. ....PING.

i say in all honesty a good for her would be something the crosman custom shop 2400kt w/18 barrel, if you want to order her some upgrades right off the bat let her install them. heck id walk her through taking it apart and understanding how it works because it is her gun, if it breaks she has to fix it but with ur help of course. so teach her to clean the barrel and what not and install the upgrades.

Just think of the rifle you'd buy for yourself if money was no object......then figure if it is a size she could fit into.....then if it is, buy her that one. Then if she loses interest, reclaim it! I have an Orvis fly fishing outfit that I got in that way. She uses it some for bluegills, but I fish the sulfur hatch alot with it.

Dude, seriously, I would do my very best to fan this to a flame. Be careful not to smother it! A nice, bulk-fill CO2 repeater is in order for these special cicumstances, maybe with a nice custom stock. I'd probably put my airgun wishlist on hold and get her a Hammerli 850 Airmagnum. Not bulk fill, but airsource gets plenty of shots per cartridge and it's much easier to deal with than either bulk fill or 12 gram carts. Probably get her a nice custom wood stock with pink stain- or pink laminate perhaps... maybe a nice thumbhole... If I had it to do over again with my wife this is the route I'd take. I got her a Stoeger X5- mistake! She had to push with all her mite just to take it off safe, still kinda hard for her to cock... dude I think I'm going to get a 850 airmagnum for my wife and try again... refurbs at AGD are like $160.

Good for you! I'd welcome the competition, practice makes perfection, competition makes the need even for more practice. Believe you should let her win 99% of the time and just prove who's best some of the time, if you can?
Enjoy.

I would start her off with a RIFLE.
It is a LOT easier to shoot a rifle accurately than to shoot a pistol accurately. And you stated that she did not like it when she missed. So make it as easy as possible for her to shoot accurately. A RIFLE.
Also use appropriate size targets. By this I mean size the target for her skill level and distance. Example, expecting the average shooter to shoot decent scores on a regulation 10m Air RIFLE target is not realistic. The regulation 10m AR target is the same target that is used at the Olympics by world class shooters. I start new shooters off with the larger 10m Air PISTOL target, where they have a better chance of shooting a decent score. For metal targets, rather than put it out at 20 yards, pull it in to 10 yards.
BTW, it sounds like you are make a good decision not to be CHEAP with the gun.
I've heard/read of a few too many stories where the guy gets an expensive toy and gets the wife a budget toy.
What do you think will happen when she compares the toys? hmmm not good.
So get her a gun comparable to yours, so she does not feel "short changed."
Having said that, there are times where a purpose gun might be both cheaper and better than a higher priced gun, for a specific purpose. "Better" covers many factors; fit, comfort, looks, matching the type of shooting, charging method/power plant, etc. Example, my match rifle will outshoot anything else I have for accuracy, but I don't use it for plinking. My Gamo Delta is a better choice for plinking. And for casual target shooting, I use my Daisy 953. Both of the Gamo and Daisy rifles together don't come anywhere near the cost of my match rifle.
Let her know that gun #1 is a "starter" and as she figures out what she wants, you will get her another gun that better fits her desire and purpose. Or even multiple guns, each for different purposes; plinking, target shooting, hunting, etc.
gud luk

NO SPRINGERS! Not even a Bronco or B12. CO2 or PCP only, and make it a repeater. You gotta treat her like a kid you are encouraging to learn to shoot.

Get a 220 dollar budget
Go buy yourself matching 2400kt carbines from the CS.
Do the work for her, smoothing out stuff and what not.
Dont be surprised if she gets to the point she can outshoot you.......
God bless,

Great monster creation!
I live with two monsters
My wife and young daughter LOVE to shoot.
My wife actually plinks with the RX-1 and occasionally shoots the Crow Mag with no assistance needed to cock either gun.
