Super easy Butt Pad for The Little Norica 56 .***Pics are back!***

Sorry so late... Was working on a car today...

Yea that multilayer metal IS hard but it's amazing how well a fine quality metal file can do the job... I've used that very same file with a drill to turn down a Crosman barrel...

For the 56, I took the action off first.... Then, held the trigger pulled, exposing that multilayer metal sear... I slowly worked a small fine toothed metal file (ones used for metal) across the face of the sear, keeping the file flat against the surface and the exact angle.. I would flip the action time to time to keep the filed area uniform on both sides... Usually I'd work my way up in sand paper to get a super shine but all I had was 1000 grit sand paper... After I got the surface pretty flat and shiny with the file... I wrapped the file with the 1000 grit  wet/dry sand paper and worked the sear surface again, attacking both sides. I'd check the shine with a flashlight to see the process of my work, making sure everything is uniform... Holding the trigger back CAN get kind of tiring on the hands... Next I put a little moly past on the polished sear surface. The contact point on the piston also needs to be polished but I'll do that when I get around to doing a REAL tune to the gun in the future...

Since I was at it, I decided to polish the crown. It wasn't bad at all but I just took it to , I guess, the level of my work standards... LOL I put a little tiny tiny piece of tissue in the barrel to keep it clean.. Next, I went looking for a long aluminum screw with a head that fit the crown and cleared the front sight... I chucked the screw into the drill, added some tooth paste, and away I went... I also did the same in the rear where the breech is... Next, I cleaned it all out, pushing out the tissue with a wooden stick and cleaning off the traces of toothpaste with a cotton swab... I put the action back on the stock with Loc-tite and let it cure before shooting..

So what did I get for all my work? A lighter tirgger (probably can get even lighter) that I'm not used to yet and (when I have to remember about the lighter trigger) cleaner less ragged paper groups..

Note: When I first tried to polish the sear on my Crosman 1377, I used a Dremel... The problem with that was I couldn't get a perfect flat shine... Later, I tried using the fine metal file and using various grades of fine wet/dry sand paper... I found that I get better results this way.. Slowly but surely...

Question for MAV72, How much quieter is the 56 than the Tribal Basic?  I got one of those for christmas and was looking at the 56 for awhile as a quieter indoor gun.  All of my shooting is done in a room in my house and was wondering  how much less of an impact there was when the 56 was shot.  Thanks.

When broken in, my Norica 56 is about 1\3 quieter than my Tribal... When my 56 was new, the spring twang was very noticeable but as I continued to shoot and brake it in, it got quieter... Mine just sounds like slapping the end of a PCV pipe now and the cocking is very smooth... I suggest throwing on a scope like Petey did so the gun will be less hold sensitive, trying to line up the open sights... The open sights shouldn't be an issue if you are a youth or have a smaller body frame...
