thekid I don't expect some companies like Gamo and several others to kick up the quality even though it's possible without hitting the cutomer with the cost. Crosman airguns IMO have a better finished product inside their airguns and their customer service is super. I just had a back and forth dealing's with Gamo on several of their part's and was treated like a we don't care what you need. The reviews I had in mind would be driven more towards the customers need's not getting a high dollar tuned type airgun from the factory but tip's and tricks to getting more out of thier airgun and even info on vender's who offer part's, services etc. to give thier airgun the best treatment. Every aspect of the reviews would put safety first and a place where the airgunners themselves could e-mail, call in etc. and give their imput on what they want to see from the manufactures most want less bling and better quality and customer service. Shadow, i have heard that some crossman are copies of gamo rifles.  If this is true what makes them better? , and how does the crossman nitro piston compare to the gamo's IGT? .

I gotta tell ya Craymar ..... the manufacturers have been made aware of it and have heard thousands of complaints and seen hundreds of reviews over the years but it doesn't change a thing.    For most manufactures, it's mass production and they will do nothing that is going to increase their production costs or line time.

 The BAM/Zisico B-18/19s were virtually direct clones of the Gamo 220/440/890 series.

 The Crosmans are built on the B-18/19 series rifles.

 IOW the 1000fps Gamos and 1000fps Crosmans are siblings if not identical twins.

 I haven't opened up an early series Gamo or a Crosman Quest series since I started keeping records of internal dimensions but I have tuned both my old B-18 and Big Cat.

 The recent Gamos use plastic rear spring guides and spacers. which are known to not be suitable for the task and often break. The B-19/Crosmans use steel for those parts.

 The walls of the piston on the Big Cat miked at .054". The compression tube at .074".

 The B-18 was .058 & .092 respectively.

 The only original part inside my Big Cat is now the piston---the rest originated in the Crosman parts bins except for the guide which I turned from Delrin. I replaced the poor fitting Gamo tophat with a shortened version turned from Delrin that actually fits the spring.

 The combination of reduced spacing & lightening in the tophat and the slightly shorter Crosman spring was intended to reduce velocity to a point that the lightly built tube & piston might be able to tolerate in an effort to extend lifespan.

 I reassembled the gun without using tar on it----only a light coat of moly on the guide and spring and the usual places. When last chronied it was shooting CPLs at 810fps and slowly increasing as the tune breaks in. The only proper terms to describe the cocking cycle are light and buttery. The firing cycle most resembles the well tuned R-7 that it sets next to in the rack. Short, sharp and virtually silent with no twang, twist or mechanical noise. Calm isn't an overstatement. With the hollow buttstock now filled by expanding foam it is a stealth sniper without the need of anything of questionable legal status on the muzzle.

 I modded the trigger with adjusting screws where needed and it's now as satisfactory as this old trigger elitist could want.

 The Gamos as delivered almost invariably have piston seals damaged by the razor-like burrs left by the presses that Gamo does not address. The guns are egregiously oversprung and the result of those two facts and the light construction means that they start beating themselves to death from the first shot.

 The original reason to buy the Big Cat was to see what I could do to civilize the modern rifle, do something satisfactory to the horrid trigger and extend the normally short lifespan. I am entirely satisfied that I have done so at this point. I now end most shooting sessions with the big Cat. Not because of accuracy which is only so-so but because it's such a delight to shoot.

 I hope that increases your understanding of the current Gamos and I request that anyone who can provide wall thicknesses of the earlier Gamos and current Crosmans share that data with me by PM.   HTH, Tom @ Buzzard Bluff

Holy-smokes, sounds like the UK where a Cros 2240 costs equivalent to $120 U.S.!

Yes some are 400-500 dollars.
They are the full power models you would get.
The 2240 almost costs that much here. I paid 100 dollars for mine.

It seems that gamo is being out done by crossman, being beat by a Chinese import that sells for half the price of their 1000 fps rifles should get them to hammer out their defects.  Lets hope for the best.

Crosman and Gamo part's may look the same but the Crosman part's like pistons, tophat's are finished better. The trigger part's may look the same also but's there a difference and you don't want to try and mix and match em. Now as far as finished trigger part's Gamo is up on Crosman. Crosman triggers part's are a little rough and also the springs in the triggers are a heavier gauge. As mentioned the Chinese clones are putting out some good shooters. If I had a choice between a Gamo and a B26 I would grab the B26 without question. I have Gamo's tuned and several B26's tuned and all are great shooters but the B26's are some sweet shooters. One of my B26's was never tuned until several years ago due to it shot so darn good and I had it for 6yrs. Ed
