Breach seal or piston seal.
Breach seals don't get lube. Piston seal get moly on the sides only.

O-rings dry out and rot, lose their ability to seal, if no maintenance is performed, therefore,
they do require lubrication
. Crosman recommends use of Pellgunoil
http://www.crosman.com/gear/care/0241
(Pellgun oil prevents your airguns from rusting and the seals from drying out) in Co2 guns and Airforce recommends using divers silicone grease
http://www.diversdiscountflorida.com/prodDetails.cfm?itemID=1115
on the dual o-ring breech seals of their PCP guns. I wouldn't use pellgunoil on a spring gun breech seal, most likely to cause dieseling when it drips and runs into the bore or cylinder port.
I use just enough divers silicon grease to keep my Diana 34P breach seal shiny and slick. Divers silicon grease will not diesel, unless you put gobs of it onto the o-ring and it gets into the bore or cylinder port.

I think because I use Ballistol on everything as I wipe down my rifles the breech seals get lubed in the process without me thinking about it! Ballistol is probably the best all around lube you can use for all that needs minor lubing on a gun JMO

You can also use a very light coating of the silicone based lubricant for electrical connections....dielectric grease.

I Replaced all the seals in the RWS airguns, when I bought them, they were undersized.
Replaced them with seals from Plumbing store 3 years ago.
How long before they rott with no lube?
I found for myself the less I did with lubes after the tune, the more consistent they became.
