Benjamin Katana

I like the 2000 psi fill pressure of my 177 discovery. I get a lot of fills from my 3000 psi scuba tank and good power.

I may also like the 22 Katana for the same reason.

How close to real is the advertised 900 fps of the Katana with lets say 14 grain and the heavier 21 grain pellets?

Would appreciate your thoughts and information on the Katana.

Isn't the Katana just a Discovery with the Maurader stock ?

If that is the case, I would stay away from it, the stock is horrible.

I own both a Marauder and a Katana.  The only similarities between a Katana stock and a Marauder stock is the finish.   A Katana is a much lighter air gun.  The Katana and Marauder do share the same trigger and both have rifled barrels.  I have owned a couple of Discovery's too.  I found them OK but I sold them and kept the Katana.  Here's a couple of shot strings from my bone stock Katana.  Looking at my records I see my former .22 Disco averaged 777 with the same 14.3 gr. pellet.  As always, your milage may vary.

The stock is much like the Marauder stock, but having the Marauder trigger is the real plus. At least the one I've seen in real life looked like the stock was inletted with a whole lot of space (almost like it was made for the fatter marauder air tube), but at least it's a man-sized stock.  The bigger, better shaped stock and a Marauder trigger are worth getting.

Besides the trigger and stock, it's pretty much a Discovery, so whatever tuning/power reviews for the Discovery will apply to the Katana.  Small tube and a 2K fill are not going to give high energy levels for a whole lot of shots.  If major power is a goal, would pass on the Katana (or the Discovery). They seem to give the best combination of power and shot count somewhere around 18 foot pounds. Can ramp them up to +20 foot pounds or dial them down to 12-15 foot pounds with the mods posted on this (and other) forums... but they seem to give the best combination of shot count and power at about 18 foot pounds.

My katana shoots RWS superdomes at 910 to 930 fps. According to PA that's the pellet they used to the $10 for 10 test thing.

I must have a freak .22 Disco. Bone stock, out of the box I am getting 23ft pounds + for over 18 shots.

According to Crosman literature and the PA site, these are the features of the Katana vs the Marauder:

Katana barrel length     24"   Overall length is 39"
Marauder barrel length 20"   Overall length is 43"

Katana weighs 6 lbs, Marauder weighs 7.5 lbs

Katana is a single shot, Marauder has a 10 rnd magazine

Katana is louder; no brake, Marauder has a brake and is quieter

Both have choked barrels and adjustable triggers
