2240 trigger pull

I am playing with Crosman 2240's in  my old age. The trigger comes at maybe 7 lbs. I don't know for sure but let's agree it is too heavy, I cut to coils off of the trigger spring and stretched the spring bact to it's original 1.25 inches and the trigger pull dropped to a decent 3 to 4 lbs. Any thoughts on this procedure?

That is pretty much standard procedure for reducing the 2240 trigger pull.  You can also get a lighter spring or buy one of the adjustable trigger springs.  I also suggest that you polish the trigger and sear contact points for a smoother pull.

There are several easy trigger tunes you can do to that trigger group in addition to lightening the spring tension. Always check that your gun is safe when adjusting spring tension. Sometimes you go so light that bumping the pistol can cause it to fire. I guess that is why some refer to the procedure as the 'bump test'.

These tips do make for a nicer trigger for sure.Also another good tip is to make a sear/trigger spring guide.This is easily done by taking a spent .22 rim fire cartridge.Polish out the brass,then slip it into the top of the spring,it makes a nice platform for the sear,and keeps the spring straight,instead of all kinked up at the top...

Polish the trigger and sear at all contact points this will give you a nice smooth trigger pull.Also shim both with washers it will stop the side to side wobble.
