Forgot To Adjust My AO (duh)

Well, yesterday afternoon, my doberman was whining & doing circles at the porch door. When he does circles, it means, "Squirrel!" I let him out, and I see 3 medium sized reds or fox squirrels 60 yrds out. I figured I'd try out the newly refinished (stained/poly'd/painted) Storm XT on some blood it's been craving, and kept my distance @ 60 yrds. Set up my chair & gun rest, and had a go (freshly zeroed the day prior). I shot 15 times before they all ran off. (cont...)

(...cont) I couldn't figure it out why I missed 15 times. I set the scope at 15x before shooting. Well, my stupid arse totally forgot to adjust the AO on the front of the CP 4-16x 40mm scope. 30 minutes later I realize this. It was set at 20 yrds from the day prior of zeroing it. I've been so used to shooting my new Benji Titan GP with it's stock scope. Ugh - I could've had 3 nutters. Thankfully, no collateral damage. First time for that kind of forgetfulness!

Happens to the best of us....better luck next time.  But 60 yds at a squirrel might be pushing it for a Storm.  Maybe some other hunter who have killed a squirrel at those distances can chime in.  I`ve taken Starlings at those distances though....but they`ve thinner skin.

But each time I've tried Crosman Premier Super Point's at that range on paper targets, I usually get 2-3 inch groups, & I've tried once before @ a squirrel's chest w/ those & got him. I was about to move up to 25 yrds but they scattered on ground. CPHP's I wouldn't have tried.

Yea it happens but yes that is a stretch, I feel 40 with my Disco is long , I have had kills at that distance but I like 30 better ( might be my old eyes too    )

I agree. I don't like un-humane kills, but I tried :/. I'll add that my Storm also likes Crosman Premier 10.5 & 7.9 grain dome pellets (boxed), but the 7.9 are the ultimate tac drivers over everything. This summer, I plan to do a detailed target/yardage/penetration tests with all my guns.
