Starting my first stock refinish. I finished sanding but might need some more? Still don't know if I'm going to use truckbed liner or a clear finish.
Sorry cameraphone pic's.

More sanding?

dont use truck bed liner check out some stains and other finishes.. that stocks seems to have a decent grain pattern and a nice stain would deff pull it out more..

I'm thinking a nice satin Golden Oak. I like a light color finish.

take a damp paper towl and wipe it over the stock, it will bring the grain out for a minute for you to get an idea of what a natural finish would look like

I'm thinking a nice satin Golden Oak. I like a light color finish.
Another nice stain color, which is light, is the Ipswich Pine (hope I spelled that right, lol). It has a little more "gold" than the golden oak that I recently tried on a furniture project. It's still light, but the golden oak has a little bit of a greenish tint that cools the color down too much for me.

if you check out my thread i think it got moved to the shop talk gate labeled "how to repair/refinish stocks" that stain is the minwax gun stock stain.. but its darker then it should cuz i didnt wipe the first coat off like i should have done before the first 15 minutes.. but its still a beautiful color... id suggest if you can grab like 2 or 3 of the top stains you think you would like and test it out on different spots on the stock... it doesnt take much to sand it right off once you have made ur choice

That stock is too pretty to do anything like a bed liner or paint. Definitely do a natural finish. And do as Mike said with the wet rag. It'll give you a preview of the natural beauty.

I like the grain in that a lot, especially on the left side. It's got a very pretty grain in it. Looks good.

I wish the tiger stripe extended more in to the stock. Over all I'm happy with my first refinish job. I used Minwax Polyurethane clear semi-gloss.
