HELP,me and my 460magnum are in deep schmuk

Until now Ive been shooting inside the house along a 10meter range with my Gamo CFX.
 Then along came the Diana 460 Magnum.
  Today when everyone had gone away I figured I'd zero the Diana , as it's only had about 15 rounds through it prior to me buying it . After 45 rounds it started to settle into nice 15mm groups of five .So I made some adjustments to the scope screws , marked out another target on an A4 sheet of paper and let rip ,carefully of course. Wow what a rifle. I`m using 10.grain Baracuda Match pellets .They're nice and consistant, this rifle seems to just love them.
 When I'd finished I removed my target surround from the wall to put everything away. The wall has nine nice little fragmented holes clean through it now,OH ^$#@$)^^^!!**.
 Has anyone had this experience before. Them Baracudas , they sure go .Through everything , including the wall.
 Do you reckon I should try to buy off the Missus with a wall hung painting ,or just lay down and take a thrashing like a real man. This is very serious

What, pray tell, are you using for a backstop?  To be honest, I did something similar, although to an unfinished basement wall.  Got a 2260 and set up a backstop of some folded carpet remnants, couple pieces of hardboard and particle board.  When I went to check the target, I found that the Crosman pointeds had blown completely through.  Welcome to adult air guns!  Get yourself a couple of week's worth of plastic grocery bags and jam them into a box, as tight as you can.  Then put a piece of steel as a backer.  I will bet you won't get one ping out of it.  Those bags easily stop my RX.

On the holes, got spackling and bit of touch up paint?  What she don't know......

LMBO! How good are you with dry wall filler and paint? I blew up my window cill once and had to put a fake tree infront of it till the wife left for work. Then wood filler blow dryer sander and painted and she never knew! I suggest you fix it and never talk about it!

Then get a 5/8 to 1 in half sheet of ply wood then cut it inhalf and use the 2 layers for a back stop behind a phone book.

I'd patch up those holes as quickly as possible.  Even if the job's not perfect, it will look a LOT better than it does currently, I'm sure.  That way, it might lessen the shock when she sees it.     I used to use white toothpaste to fill in pin holes and nail holes on white walls for a quick fix.  You might try that if your wall is white colored.  I have a feeling such big holes might be hard to fill though...

Really though, this might be a perfect time to illustrate to your significant other if she sees the holes, that you need to move to a new house with more land so you can set up a really safe shooting range.

Just when I thought this couldnt get any worse I got sprung using her hair dryer to dry the filler in a hurry!
 This is going to cost me big time , any suggestions ??

I'll say this is SERIOUS.
But it is worse that you are saying.
This is a SAFETY issue.

Besides the hole, what is the damage on the other side of the wall?
Is it an exterior wall that now has a hole in it?
Or worse, the shared wall to the neighbor next door in an apartment or condo.
And where did the pellet finally stop?

This is why you GOT TO know the limits of your trap.  And why I don't like the wood boxes many traps are made of.  Wood won't stop the pellet if you bore thru the duct seal.  Mine is in a steel electrical box.  The steel box is the backup to the duct seal to stop the pellet.

And then what happens if you miss the trap, which will happen...one day.

....I use 1/4 steel plate behind one layer of ductseal and then stuff the area in front full of plastic Wal-mart bags to a depth of 12 inches.  I use to use newspaper but it made too much dust.

Now the wall is easy buy some Easy Sand setting drywall compound they make it in 20, 45, 90 minute setting times.  It sets hard and does not shrink.  When she is out for the day patch it up

That not worthy you got busted! Lol when she yells just yell a bunch of jiberish back grab your pellet rifle and what ever else you care about and head for the dog house! Lol or do like i do and laugh while your getting yelled at and finish fixing it then go do what ever you want like it dosnt bother you. Like shes not even there and you never shot the wall. Then if she brings it up denie it happened then demand proof. Oh yeah you fixed it!

As others have said, build a better trap.

The general rule for duct seal layering is:

1 inch = will stop most youth / mid-powered guns

2 inches = will stop most "normal" adult airguns

3 inches = will stop most magnum airguns [this is a *lot* of duct seal!]

But having a phone book in front of the duct seal, and/or a steel back-plate behind the duct seal isn't a bad idea, either.

I also have a piece of 5/8" OSB (the stuff they use for sub-floors) behind the trap, just in case I miss.

Steel backing plate...simple, 1/8" will do the job for any airgun but, sumatras and other big bores will leave some major dents at short ranges.

My garage range target box is made from 1/4" A36 steel plate, 30" wide x 24" tall x 16" deep. Has 12 layers of woven Kevlar curtains in it, even .22 LRs don't make it to the back plate (note: loose, hanging Kevlar is designed for impact, tightly packed is far less effective). Just shop-vac out the lead and stuff every week or so.

Great ideas there Dudes . Thanks .The problem I have now is not the hole in the wall , or getting caught drying the filler with her hair dryer , but ,,,,,,,,,,The beaver has made a run for cover!! Maybe just a case of temporary hibernation.

One word!!!! PELLET TRAP!!!! COST of repair could have gone on the making of the trap. It's easier to ask for forgiveness that it is for permission. Sorry you got busted!  Magnum power= Damage. This is a lesson you need to remember. I've got a hole in the ceiling of my back sun room that did not go all the way through the roof from a mishap so don't feel bad. The ceiling is tin so I just put another screw in it with silicon. I was lucky that it was fired from a low power non MAGNUM gun. My wife does not know the difference. I was in the same predicament as you on to tell her and catch the grief. I agree on the safety issue for these guns. They are not toys and we need to take cautions when using them. I am a big one to preach safety because I am  member of I SHOOT MY CHRONY
